I wanted to like it too, and hope it does well. But I think it's just too avant garde and over priced. We need a fun dessert place, like Citizen Cake!

We had a good time, but were looking for more of a fun dessert place, not as avant garde. But we're always up for trying something new, so I hope it does well!

The problem with Candy Bar and Yelp is that both are frequented by people who use NOPA as a neighborhood designation.

Unless they get mugged, of course, then all of a sudden they're in the Western Addition.

I was there on Thursday night too. It was my birthday so I didn't pay and therefore can't comment on that, except to say we (yes - 6 girls) were all up for a special treat. I did notice that the dessert tasting menu was $10 cheaper than Portnoy's tasting menu at Campton Place which I had also experienced, and the atmosphere at Candy bar was way more fun/casual. Apparently Portnoy's menu was only finally put into place on Wednesday night which might explain your waiter's confusion, though not an excuse. We just asked Boris to choose our desserts for us. He told us he didn't want to stay at Campton place because he wanted to cook for real people, something he couldn't do in a hotel dining room. Campton Place have also themed their menu as 'Indian'.

We tried every dessert on the menu, Thursday, I think. Personally, I happen to think the white coffee ice cream is particularly stunning and unusual (I'd tried white coffee in one of his desserts preciously at Campton Place and it blew me away). The feta sorbet was wonderful too. I can only judge the experience without the burden of the pleasure:cost ratio as I wasn't party to the bill, and from that point of view it suited me just perfectly.

Sorry you didn't like it as much as I did.

I completely agree with everything in this review. I live nearby Candybar and love the concept of having a small place for post-dinner date or girls night out dessert. Unfortunately, our waiter was equally clueless, and even forgot two of our "courses." Uh, there's only 4 courses in their "tastings" and 2 of them are set, so really, how could you forget half of our food? (We had to ask for them TWICE). He was also just extremely inattentive, even though the place wasn't busy. Afterwards we debated whether or not he was an arrogant/aloof waiter or just a little slow.

I was hoping my experience was just a bad night, but after this review, I'm thinking not. Boo :( I wanted to like it! I really did!
