They skipped the San Francisco Bay Area entirely and missed the best Southern California beer fest of all — the 11th annual Real Ale Festival at Pizza Port in Carlsbad this weekend, but the Los Angeles Times on Sunday had an excellent list of beer festivals coming up this summer and fall.
Here’s the list.
Be sure to check out the photos with the story. The one I’ve posted, I believe, is a publicity photo from the Monterey Beer Festival Aug. 2. That’s promoter Jeff Moses and Boxer** is his beer, a medium-bodied light lager that’s in stores around here.

Well, first there’s the Real Ale Fest, 60-plus cask-conditoned ales at Pizza Port this weekend in Carlsbad. www.pizzaport.com..- Then in July there’s Microbreweries Battling Breast Cancer, July 12, 1 – 5 p.m., Marin Brewing Co., 1809 Larskpur Landing Circle, Larkspur. More than 50 breweries participating, benefit for the Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic in Berkeley, San Francisco. Info: 415-461-HOPS.
- In August, on Saturday, Aug. 9, there’s the Bistro’s 11th annual IPA Festival in Hayward: More than 50 IPAs from around the West Coast on tap.
