The search for Pliny the Younger

The search for Russian River Pliny the Younger, the 2009 edition is intensifying. Shared a pint of Double Bastard with a friend tonight at Pacific Coast Brewing, 906 Washington St. in Oakland. He came there with an empty growler, searching for Pliny the Younger; hadn’t arrived yet.
He went to The Trappist, 460 89th St., same story: keg not tapped, on to Cato’s Ale House, 3891 Piedmont Ave., same story. Then, I got home and had an e-mail; note from Robert Gaustad, proprietor of Bobby G’s Pizzeria, 2072 University Ave. in Berkeley. He just put a keg on tap tonight.
Sigh. And so it goes. One thing’s certain; they’ll have it on tap Saturday at the Bistro’s Double IPA Fest: doors open at 11 a.m.

If last year’s Double IPA Fest is any measure, expect the Pliny the Younger to last from the Bistro’s opening at 11:00 AM until say maybe noon.

I’ll be heading up to Bobby G’s this afternoon to get some Younger. I’m hoping it’s still on tap. If anyone went last night or early afternoon give us a heads up on availability

Only the brewery that produces a beer can fill a growler with said beer. Bars are not allowed to refill growlers.
Or am I missing something?

Only breweries are allowed to fill growlers or pallas. Period.

I think some states allow bars to fill a growler – like the Ginger Man in NYC.

We still have plenty of Pliny the Younger…as well as the Elder. I only have one keg but am pouring 10oz. glasses only for $6, tax included.
It’s great stuff!

I went up to Bobby G’s this afternoon (missing my night class in the process)but I can attest, it is great stuff. Great pizza and appetizers too! I think I may be back tomorrow, but this time I’m taking the BART!

Yes BART and Pliny should be steady companions. Bobby G’s is a block from Downtown Berkeley BART

Toronado just tapped their keg of Younger. City Beer taps their keg at 3PM today.

How much is Pliny the Younger going for in other pubs? At Toronado, it’s $6.50 in a tulip glass and no happy hour prices.

PTY goes for $4.50 for a 10 ounce glass at the Russian River brewpub. They sold out of growlers when I was up there earlier today.
