An international conference in London seeks students to participate in workshops and other activities addressing online safety and security.

Students between 11 and 16 who are Internet savvy have until Jan. 25 to submit an application. Twenty students will be selected to represent the United States at the conference from July 16 to July 22.

A total of 300 students from the U.S., Australia, Canada and Europe will attend the conference hosted by the London-based Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.

“Children today are part of a new Internet generation that grew up playing, communicating and learning in cyberspace,” said Ernie Allen, president and chief executive officer for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “It’s important to solicit their input in our effort to protect them from predators who may try to victimize them online.”

To prepare the 20 selected American students, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will meet with the youngsters in Washington, D.C., in April to talk about Internet safety.
