CheckThree South San Francisco service clubs teamed up to raise $8,100 for classroom supplies for local schools.

Each school will receive $900 dollars as each club has donated $300 to a principal.

“I am so thrilled that the three clubs worked together to raise funds that will go directly back into the community for the education of our children,” said Liza Normandy, member of the district board and Soroptimist club.

According to a survey by the National Education Association, teachers in the 2000-01 school year spent on average $443 of their own money to meet the needs of their students.

That problem could become more severe today given the state’s current fiscal woes.
