It did not take long for Jim Cannon to get back his seat on the San Mateo County Board of Education.
Cannon was serving on the board when he recently signed on as interim principal for Washington Elementary in Burlingame.
Problem is, the state education code prohibits someone from sitting on a county board while working for any district in that particular county.
So Cannon resigned from the board May 14, said Peter Burchyns, spokesman for the county Office of Education.
But last week, the board voted to appoint Cannon back on the board effective June 15 after his contract with the school is done, Burchyns said.
“It was one of those glitches,” Burchyns said. “There was no intent to violate the education code.”
For the board, Cannon has overseen Trustee Area 5, which covers the Burlingame, Hillsborough City, Millbrae and San Bruno Park school districts, and parts of the San Mateo Union High School District.

Jim Cannon is a great guy and an asset to any board on which he serves. I am not in education but have known of Jim for many years.
