State of education, part 2
Not to get you more down on the state’s public-education system but a report last week out of UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education and Access underscores how the recession has exacerbated the struggles of schools not just in finding sources of revenue but also providing social-type services for children and eliminating inequalities among different groups of students.
The report is called “Educational Opportunities in Hard Times:
The Impact of the Economic Crisis on Public Schools and Working Families,” and it was based on interviews with about 90 principals from across the state.
Here are its key findings:
