What a long strange trip it continues to be for the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh. On March 18, the legendary rock bassist will be the guest conductor at an intriguing concert titled “Classical meets Jazz Meets Phil Lesh.”

The event is a fundraiser for two Berkeley institutions _ the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra and Jazzschool. Lesh has a special connection to the former, having once _ many, many moons ago _ played trumpet and violin for YPSO. Both YPSO and Jazzschool musicians will perform in an eveing that includes compositions by Berlioz, Ellington and _ get this _ the Grateful Dead.
