Sky rockets in flight: KFOG KaBoom!

Everybody loves a fireworks display, right? Well, maybe, cats and dogs aren’t so crazy about the accompanying noise. But, not counting four-legged friends, basically everybody else does.
KFOG radio’s annual KaBoom show offers perhaps the best pre-Fourth of July fireworks show in the state. In fact, organizers say that it’s California’s biggest fireworks display. And, yeah, it’s usually pretty impressive.
Toss in some “world class rock,” KFOG’s term for the music played on the station, and you’ll have an event that many people won’t want to miss. This year’s show takes place from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday (May 12) at Piers 30-32 in San Francisco.
The musical lineup is solid. The headliner is blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, who delivered a deliriously good outing at the Warfield in San Francisco back in March. Shepherd is one of the best guitarists in the business _ and the fireworks coming from his fretboard will likely be as impressive as the ones you see in the sky. Also on the bill are eclectic Latin-rockers Ozomatli and folksy jam-band favorite Guster.
Tickets are $10. Call 415/817-KFOG (415/817-5364) or visit www.kfog.com. Those who can’t make the show can still tune in and listen to the fiery soundtrack that KFOG DJs spin during the fireworks show, which is set to ignite at 9 p.m. KFOG is at 104.5 FM and 97.7 FM on your radio dial.
