The Concert Blog wants to send you and a guest to go see the New Orleans All Stars at Yoshi’s at Jack London Square in Oakland on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 13-14). This great band certainly lives up to its name _ it features the all-star lineup of George Porter, Cyril Neville, Henry Butler and Raymond Webber. If you know New Orleans music, you know that’s a truly great band! We’re giving away two pairs of tickets for each night.
In order to be eligible to win these tickets, you need to answer one fairly easy question. Post your answer to this blog and we’ll randomly select the winners. You’ll be notified, via e-mail, if you win. Please list in your blog posting which night you wish to attend. Please do not enter if you know you can’t use the tickets.
For more information on these shows, call 510-238-9200 or visit www.yoshis.com.
Ready for the question?
Here it is: Cyril Neville originally came to fame as a member of what band?
Know the answer? Then post away. Good luck to all!

I saw Cyril playing with the Nevilles at the Warfield over a decade ago. It wasn’t the Meters, of course, his first band led by Art Neville, but most of the Neville men. I’d won tickets to that New Year’s week concert. My first chance to see them in person and I was blown away. A very SF experience. When I’m in New Orleans (a bunch lately), I try to see their sister who plays a regular club on French Street.

Cyril was in several bands, i.e., Art Neville & the Neville Sounds, then Soul Machine, then Endangered Species Band and finally the band that skyrocketed him to fame was Uptown Allstars Band.
I hope I win.
Thanks.
