The triple bill of classic rockers Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick is arguably the least hip tour of the year.
In order to attend the bands’ show Wednesday night at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, I basically had to refund all the cool-music-guy points I’ve scored by going to the last 10 Noise Pop festivals and promise not to listen to my Guided by Voices collection for the next 12 months.
Not a bad trade, in retrospect, since those three groups delivered more sing-along classics in one night than I’d hear in a thousand Noise Pops. Journey and Heart both turned in fine sets, good enough to make one nearly forget about the embarrassment that was Cheap Trick.
