Slow Foods Rock festival, San Francisco
The reviews that I heard were really positive about Phil’s show at Slow Foods Rock. Heard from a couple of old Dead heads that really thought the show was “right on.” I wasn’t there, because I was covering the Metal Masters show the same day down at Shoreline. That wasn’t a bad trade off, but I would have gladly traded in Judas Priest for Phil. Maybe not Motorhead, though. Here’s what I missed:
Set list:
Playing In The Band
Bertha
Good Morning Little Schoolgirl
Deal
China Cat Sunflower
I Know You Rider
Sugaree
Uncle John’s Band
Jam
Help On The Way
Slipknot!
Franklin’s Tower
Sugar Magnolia

3, Heaven and Hell’s gargoyle-dotted set, which seemed straight out of a B-grade horror movie
4, The line that separates Judas Priest from Spinal Tap-like parody vanish before our eyes
5, Most unbelievably, at least one male fan who wasn’t dressed in a black rock concert T-shirt

Metal Masters Tour:
There was no Ozzfest tour this year, and Motley Crue’s Crue Fest was a dud, but this trek could save the summer for hard-rock heads.
The Metal Masters bill looks too good to be true, featuring an all-star lineup of Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell (the Ronnie James Dio-led version of Black Sabbath), Testament and Motorhead. That, dear readers, is one sick, twisted and totally awesome bill!
