Folks, just spotted a phat coupon on page A7 of today’s Times. Spend $30 or more and get $10 off your purchase. The coupon expires April 16 and is only valid at the new Walnut Creek store at 2220 Oak Grove Road. (Read George Avalos’ Times business story from the end of January announcing the chain’s new-store announcement, or my story last month on BevMo cellarmaster Wilfred Wong.)
Pretty good deal, considering the paper is 50 cents. What are you waiting for? Happy Friday.

The Shadelands area of Walnut Creek came to life last week when the sparkling new BevMo! store opened at 2220 Oak Grove Road. Now, at least right after work, there’s an alternative to the Captain’s Chest.
Per usual, the space is bright and the wine aisles easy to navigate. When you walk in, on the right, there’s a wall devoted to stemware, from acrylic to Riedel. Gustatory quotes line the rim of the ceiling, from John Goodman (”Beer is good food”) to the wise Cookie Monster (”Me want cookie”).
Check it out. The 5 cent sale is currently going on, that’s 100 wines at regular price, but buy a second and pay only five cents. My three, 5 cent sale must-haves:
Pink by Yellowglen ($14.99), a fabulous dry rose sparkling wine from Australia; Two Angels Petit Sirah ($29.99) and Stonehaven Winemaker’s Selection Riesling from South Australia ($17.99).
I was in the store yesterday and also spotted some wine glasses as part of the 5 cent sale. ($3.99 for the first glass). Now you have no excuse for serving your friends vino in red plastic cups.
Pop into the new store this Saturday April 12 from noon to 3 p.m. for a goat cheese and Sauvignon Blanc tasting. I’m partial to super earthy wines like Pinot Noir with goat cheese, but I never turn down a glass of Sauv Blanc, either.
