HAPPY NEW YEAR NATION!!!!

By Charles Ybarra
Monday, December 31st, 2007 at 7:44 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Key stat: The Raiders outgained the Chargers 316-253 but turned the ball over five times, compared to only one fumble by San Diego..
and that was the game.
JaMarcus Russell showed he has was it takes to be a starting Quarterback in the NFL despite throwing one interception in the first Quarter. Let it be known, finally..
there is now hope for the future under Center.
Russell completed 23 out of 31 passes and threw one hell of a Touchdown pass to Jerry Porter in the “Dark Side” end zone like he had been doing it for years.
Hopefully, with the proper training, the right players added and continued positive progression, he will be.

The words “The right players” makes me wonder how many of our current Oakland Raider Receivers on the roster will be asked back to the team next year.
I mean, I know we have SOME talent in this area..but is it truly enough?
Really????
Out of all the WR’s, it seems Ronald Curry is capable of being a continuing threat to the opposition, but what about Jerry Porter?
People still groan when I bring up his name..
Both players have logged around 700 yards for the season, but are these the kind of stats that are going to bring us to the next level?
I have to be honest, I expect a lot more from our players in this position. I’m sure they expect more from themselves as well…
Does anyone still wonder if we will ever see over a 1,000 yards from either of our starting Wides again??
Maybe this negative criticism comes to mind because I was so used to having Tim Brown suit up all of those years…with Jerry Rice helping out eventually..
If Kiffin was serious about “attacking” Free Agency, looking for Wides should be the first priority.
I’m also thinking our lack of receiving yards might be due to our previous “Band-Aid” Quarterbacks brought in to help out our team this year..
but who really knows if our Receivers would have better stats if Jam signed a little earlier?
The right Quarterback can obviously make regular Receivers look like Pro Bowl Receivers.
I hate to say it, but look at the bitch in New England…..
enough said.
Linemen, it seems like you’re protecting a wee bit better since the beginning of the season..
but if I ever see JaMarcus take another hit like the one he took in the 4th Quarter, I swear I’m taking the field and cut blocking you guys my damn self.
Barry Sims, Robert Gallery…this means you.
On the positive side, good Job opening holes for Dominic, big men.
Rhodes actually looked like he was running with the Colts in the playoffs last year.
I sense the organization will do what they must to keep this kid on our team. Not only does he have the talent, he also knows what it takes to get us to the next phase of Football.
With him, Fargas and Mike Bush activated next year, we’ll finally have what it takes to run against any team.
Lamont? I find your lack of faith disturbing…
execute order 66.
BTW….FB and TE? I think we’re good.
Defense: LT was held to 56 yards, but who knows what would really happen if he stayed in?
Then again, I guess they still ran over us without the All-star…
SD’s Rushing total: 120 yards…what else is new?
The tackle position MUST be addressed in either the Draft or Free Agency. After the game, my boy Chad told me Sapp looked at the field like he was looking at it for the last time. (Gasp) let’s hope not.
Another DE might be helpful…especially if we’re not able to bring Burgess back for more mula.
LB’s? You know we’re good. This actually might be one of our strongest positions..
Corners seem ok….let’s all pray we can keep Nnamdi.
At Safety, for some reason, we’re always looking to bring in new talent at this position. Sure, I also think we need help here…but not as much as other positions.
Is Rob Ryan safe? I guess only if we actually KNOW Pa Kiffin will want to come aboard to help us…
I’m sure more exciting news will be coming our way in the next few days, weeks and months.
Despite any change, know that I’ll be here.
Hopefully, you will be too…

DR - To your comments about the WRs - JP needs to go. He’s a slug and a bad seed; and frankly not that good. On any other team he’s a #3 at best. That being said, it all starts up front. The o-line need an overhaul - period. Sims should be gone (WAY LONG overdue). We need a good LT, C, and RG. Thinking Fanica from the Steel City here. O-line needs to be the #1 priority. #1A needs to be D-line. You’re absolutely spot on about the LB core - they’re plenty good. But without the big men up front shielding them from the first wave of blockers they’re reduced to average. Look at any #1 LB in the league and you’ll see a #1 d-line in front of him. #2 needs to be WR - simply put we need speed. JR cannot be as effective as possible if there is never anyone other than the TE getting open. Speed at WR kills. Take a corner and a safety deep, and open receivers follow. Finally, CB. Yep, Nnamdi will be a Raider for life, but the other side is average at best. As the Donkey’s showed this year, its great to have a shutdown corner on one side of the field, but without an (at least) above average corner on the other side, the shutdown is simply not as effective. Sure one side of the field is closed, but the other is an open spigot.
That’s my two cents from So. Cal. Go Raiders!

number 85 Chad Johnson from the Cincinatti Bengals wants to be traded. I know he might be another problem like Moss but he is the big play threat that Jamarcus needs to show off his big arm. We need to get this guy. I dont know how but we need him. If we had a big play threat we would of closed those close games we had and had more W’s on the board.

  3. j Says:

    we need ocho cinco

  4. j Says:

    al get ocho cinco now

  5. FLA Raider Says:

I agree, we should try to get someome of Ocho’s talent, possibly B2 Barrian from Chicago, WE NEED TO STRETCH THE FIELD !! God I miss the days of watching the Snake sling that ball… Now that we have hopes of a running attack, we should be able to go back to that with the right personell….. Im already getting ready for week 1…. GO RAIDERS>>>>>all in.
