Offseason Notes and Quotes

Hola Nation!!!
What it be, Empire? How goes your off season?
I believe with Basketball season, NFL news and all of the NFL Combine news available, there’s PLENTY of jabber to keep your mind at ease and occupied!
Nnamdi gets the Exclusive Franchise player tag?
Sick, but you know the guy deserves a big contract like the Raider Nation deserves an additional Super Bowl ring!! Team’s only throw to the guy like %13 of all of their netted passes! I sense fear and hatred in the ENTIRE NFL!! Anyone still remember him picking off that pass intended for Chad Johnson?
The force is still strong with him….and I’m sure the best is yet to come.
Fabian Washington goes Ike Turner? Are you f##*ing kidding me?
Lord..it’s events like these that make me remind fans and children not to make Football and Basketball players their beloved role models.
In the words of the wise, fat, loud Charles Barkley:
“I don’t believe professional athletes should be role models. I believe parents should be role models…. It’s not like it was when I was growing up. My mom and my grandmother told me how it was going to be. If I didn’t like it, they said, “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.” Parents have to take better control.”
Meaning: In case you didn’t already know…follow your parents rules/actions and not professional athletes.
Sorry for the lecture, but damn, I’m tired of reading all of this kind of negative press.
Whatever, I’m sure Fabian will apologize soon and we will probably forgive him…
but never truly forget.
Nice quotes by Rob Ryan on Jerry’s blog:
On the rumors of his firing:
“It was a joke to me, but I don’t care who you are, you get a little upset when you see your name flashed across the board that you’ve been fired. When it’s not true it kind of pisses you off,” Ryan said. “I mean, what you can you do? There’s a difference between fact and fiction, and the fact is I’m with the Oakland Raiders and I want to be with the Oakland Raiders.”
On being oblivious that Lane Kiffin wanted him out…
“Everything is fine. I don’t know if there was anything written about that or not, but if there was, whatever,” Ryan said. “Some people get it right, some don’t. Everybody’s got a job to do. You guys have got a job to do, get information, get the story out there, but my job is to coach defense and that’s what I do. I don’t know, some information is correct, some of it’s not, and I don’t know how it gets out there, but that’s not my job to know.”
But it IS your job to take care of our voluminous holes inside of our Defensive line, right Coach??? Please, Rob…the Nation and I are willing to put up with your methods because of your loyalty to the organization..
but if the D doesn’t improve this year? I’m not only telling Emperor Al to cut you, I’m also telling the other Coaches to cut that old, dirty, moppy hair of yours while your packing your things.
4th pick??? Which Long will be needed more? Jake or Chris? I’m going with Chris for now. This decision is based on the fact that Ellis AND Dorsey will already be gone by the time the Oakland Raiders have their chance to pick. Let’s hope Teams are more daft in this year’s draft.
Have a great weekend and week, Homeys!

Whatever we do - we should go defense. If little Howie is there - take em, if Ellis is there - take em

Agreed, if Chris Long is there, draft him. However, I would love to have Jake Long, even if it is at right tackle. We can still get a run stopper like Red Bryant in the 2nd. There will be a big drop off for LT in the 2nd unless Brandon Albert is still avalable, not likely though.

We finally hear from the horses mouth what was going on with the Ryan-Kiffin saga. This really makes me doubt the validity of the information that Jerry and his companions comes across. Although with Jerrys blog it seems to be more of an interpretive adaptation of what he himself reads and knows. But remember, the guy already admits he doesnt like the raiders but is basically being forced to cover them because of the area he works in. Maybe Art Shell was right last year when he said there was a mole in the organization making life harder for Raider Nation fanatics that read everything that is written about their beloved team, suffering trying to decipher between the truth and lies. At least we have the truth about one item, Thank You, now if we can get Kiffin or Al to speak on the garbage thats continues to come out of the media and help fans like myself sleep better knowing we have a head coach when the season starts.

let me tell you that the Miami Dolphins are not going to trade down their first round pick. The reason is they already have 2 first round picks. Because New England forfeited their late first round pick that means the Dolphins get to pick at 32 cause they are in their are only 31 picks this year for the draft. They have the first and the last pick in the first round. Not a bad situation For BILL PARCELLS. and if they do they will have dallas trade for their 2 picks this year. they will even have 3 first round picks. that will turn around a team pretty fast. 3 first round picks that great.
But lets talk about our OAK Raiders for a second. Let me tell you that we should go with Jake LONG. If he is available. Yeah this might sound crazy but i think he will not be a bust for the Nation. This is the only way that JR will be able realize his true potential. Also if we have someone like him blocking the left side maybe we could see Fargas unlock his true potential. This guy will have Fargas run to day light. He will fit into CABLES ZONE blocking scheme. Him and Gallery on the left side will be huge. Gallery works hard and does not complain. He will show his effectiveness at LG this coming season. IF Gallery and Jake long block it will give JR the time needed in the pocket to launch the cannon. I really think the that HIGGINS will be pretty good next year. His speed will be more than enough to beat the secondary and catch that 70 yrd bomb pass from JR. WE NEED a WR BAD I mean BAD. I repeat WR WR WR we dont have that big play threat
NOW on the DEFENSE IN the second round we should go DT. WE need a run stuffing interior lineman. I really feel that our DE will be more than enough to handle russhing the QB. Last year we had too many finesse pass rushers and SANDs just did not cut it. Lets go after that RB that tears our defense up. Not to mention the TIME of Posession. WE need a safety that could hit and i mean hit hard where is he we need him OUR DIVISION is full of RB’s that run all over our D. WHERE is he come save the nation and lay a hit on LT LR AND TH. THEY always have good days on us there is no one to hit them and hit them hard. RONNIE LOTT please teach one of these safeties how to hit and hit them hard.

Sorry I am new to this site I just found this site off of a link from nfl.com I have a question for anybody out there that reads this and if you can e-mail I more then likely won’t ever remember to check this site again but I several times a day all the little inside stuff about what teams are interested in who and who’s going to trade for who and what not but I have not seen a single time the Raiders mentioned about anybody in free agency. Does anybody know of us hopefully trying to fill some of the holes we have on offense and defense through free agency? Thank you if anybody does get back to me.

Why every team is making roster moves, signing and cutting players and the Raiders do nothing?
Why Kiffin doesn’t wear Raiders clothing at the combine and Senior Bowl?
Why we are always different from all the rest NFL teams?
Why we don’t know for sure if Kiffin will be back in 2008 in late February?
Because we are the Oakland Raiders.
February 27th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
And because we are an old man toy.

As a long time Raider fan, we once again can not enjoy going into a off season with stability and a commitment to improve the team. Everything being reported is on a unstable team with a out of control owner doing no good. I have found that if the same rumor is being reported daily, it will probably come true. Say goodbye to Kiffin, and we can add a new coach for the next 1 or 2 seasons and contiue our post-superbowl records of 2-5 wins a season. Only the teams with a consistant coaching staff and front office, are the teams that win. Since Art Shell was fired the first time, the only coach that lasted more than 2 seasons was Gruden, and what happened then, we won! I would really just like to read about the Raiders future draft choices and free agent pickups, like we do with the other 31 teams.

Tommy Kelly just signed 50 millions / 7 years deal. Biggest contract for a DT in NFL history.
That is a HUGE contract.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Tomorrow it starts. We find out what it all really means. If it’s Internet rumors or Raider fans avoiding reality. ‘Cause the best free agents either will or won’t sign with the Raiders. My thoughts:
1) It bothers me that Al has not called a press conference to express his support for Kiffin. That means he’s either out of touch or Davis & Kiffin really are at odds with each other. Either way, bad stuff.
2) Maybe the Raiders already know the best free agents won’t sign with them. That’s why they’ve spent such big $$ on Fargas, Nnamdi & Tommy Kelley. Although big name free agents have been more often bad (Larry Brown, Randy Moss) than good (Gannon) for the Raiders, you still want to get a good guy at a good price if he’s available. So if the Raiders have given up on free agency, it means Davis doesn’t really care most about winning. And if that’s true, it really is time to give up on them until somebody else takes over the team.

I believe the reason why Kiffin or Al aren’t saying anything is because they don’t want any more fuel added to the speculation that Kiffin will not be our Coach for the 2008 season. I mean, think about it..
It would be very idiotic of our Owner to include a Coach on 2008 draft decisions, Assistant Coach signings and salary upgrades for our Players JUST to eventually dump him. I think if Al wanted to Ax Kiff he would of done it by now….
Kelly for 50 mill? Good job,Al.. let’s just hope his sack total increases like his salary..

It looks like Gibril Wilson will sign with the Raiders.
”Report: Wilson expected to sign with Raiders
Gibril Wilson - S - NYG - Feb. 29 - 1:14 am et
Someone familiar with the situation tells Newsday that free agent S Gibril Wilson is expected to sign a deal with the Raiders.
The deal would be for $6-6.5 million a year, more than he was initially said to be seeking. It looks like Oakland will keep Michael Huff at strong safety in 2008, rather than move him to his more natural spot on the weak side.”
That is good news since there are no many good safeties either at free agency or draft.
March 3rd, 2008 at 10:03 am
Gibril Wilson and Rashad Baker were teamates at Tennessee, they were Volunteers starting SS and FS their senior year (2003)
Now, both with the Raiders.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Raiders just signed Harris and Walker. I like both signings cause we need help on the offensive side of the ball and can still hopefully draft 2 speedy WR’s who can also hopefully catch. It almost seems like we cant go wrong with the first pick, I would be happy with Mcfadden or Long or Ellis or Dorsey or trading down. I just want an overall good draft with at least 2 WR, 2 OL, 2 DL, 1 RB, and a SS. I also wouldnt be mad if we just drafted all offense hoping the whole class makes the team cause we need the help. It really is give Jamarcus protection and weapons. He has fargas and Miller and Curry so far. He needs more.
