Spit the Milk out

By Charles Ybarra
Sunday, October 12th, 2008 at 8:31 pm in Oakland Raiders.

As Emperor Al Davis sits with his son in his Press box with his arms draped over a couple of seats, eyes glued to the field, face gloomier than a broke, sad clown, I can’ t help but wonder his thoughts today..

“Looks like Cable is on his way out too. Lord Satan, have I seen better days..”

I believe we all have seen better days.
We’ve all seen better Quarterbacks, Receivers, Lines and Defense.
I’m just trying to figure out when we can hope to see that day again.

When the beginning of the off season started, Al spent cash on numerous free agents that were supposed to make a difference. Believe it or not, I recall MOST of the crowd was pleased. I heard many fans comment..
“Well, it’s not Al’s fault if we lose again this year!” to
“There’s no way we lack greatness now!” to
“Our Defense will be one of the best in the league!”

..and here we are.

I usually stay away from the hype, but I have to admit, the players and fans eventually wore me down and had me get pumped during those long summer days where all you have to do sit and think.
“Playoffs, here we come!”
“We’re back!”
“No team can stop us! 1st in our division, no doubt!”

I now wish I could reset time to saber slap myself.

In the future, please be mindful of too much off season optimism. Save it for game day, kids. THANKS!

Ok, I think we all know JaMarcus Russell is still a young Quarterback.. but damn, did he miss a couple of key throws to his receivers. To be more specific; Zack Miller, Ash Lelie and Chaz Schilens in the end zone…ugh.
It wasn’t entirely his fault. I also observed a lot of dropped balls and bad routes…but what else is new?
It all sort of reminded me that Playmakers make plays while average players still just play.

Sure Cable, you can open up the passing playbook all you want, but it doesn’t necessarily mean our players will then play the best of their ability overnight.

After watching the past 5 games, I realize we still don’t have the talent we need at Wide Receiver.

Javon Walker caught 1 ball for 7 yards for 55 million dollars..
JL Higgins caught 1 for 35
Ash Lelie 1 for 11
Ronald Curry 3 for 32

This isn’t the first time we’ve all seen these kind of end game results.

I now wonder if we could of beat this team if we ran just a wee bit more. I’m sure Mcfadden and Fargas are wondering the same things.
These guys are after all, our core strengths!!
Eh, spilt f$%%ing milk tastes bad this time of night. I’m making this blog a short 1.

At least we didn’t see our burnt poster boy, D-Hall look too bad today. He actually had a good game if you watched closley enough.
Gibril Wilson and Mike Huff? I think they got more toasted than Subway bread.
It didn’t help Drew Brees was under no kind of pressure throughout the game.
It made me almost sick to my stomach after reading today that we showed no kind of interest during that small window of his free agency.

Eh, I still like the kid from LSU. I just think he needs more time to be the great QB he’s going to be in the future…

just progress, Jam..don’t worry about wins or losses..just progress…
Maybe he’s saving the good stuff for Brett and the Jets!

Have a great week Nation,
DR

ps Once again, Good Job, Shane!!!!!

Are you familiar w/the song “inner city blues” by marvin gaye. Makes me wanna holler, throw up both my hands. JaMarcus just is’nt that good right now. Matt ryan has adapted better and in less time. He is not improving w/ more games under his belt, as a matter of fact, as the game goes on he gets worse. No more excuses kid, your not ready mentally. Locks on one player all the time and cant shuffle his feet. I know it takes time but im questioning more and more.

  2. Stabler Says:

    Jamarcus is a bust…period.

  3. DeAngelo Says:

I don’t agree that JaMarcus is a bust. He made a couple of bad throws but our receivers suck! They can’t get any separation. I say funk Walker and Lelie - they’re Bronco rejects for God’s sake. Go with the young guys because they are the only ones getting separation.

I’m not mad at the experiment. Kiffin might not have been the best play-caller but he understood the weakness of the Raiders passing game.

I think we’ll be alright in the long run. The stupidity of not getting JaMarcus in camp early last year is the bane of this season.

  4. DeAngelo Says:

But it’s a little hard to swallow when you see Atlanta.

  5. mccracken Says:

What’s the Raiders greatest need? Do we hear rumors of Bush or Fargas dangled as trade bait? What team is so desperate for running backs that they just signed Cedric Benson? Does the same team have a certain unhappy WR who insists on being called by his Spanish uni#. Does Big Al have a history of taking in headcases if they are talented headcases and there’s a need on his roster? Get that Plata y Negro jersey with “Ocho Cinco” on the back ready.

  6. Al's Daddy Says:

Until Russell can prove he can play qb there is no reason of breaking up the only good thing about that team.

When I opened your bolg, Darth, I half expected to only see the letters
“W-T-F?!?!?!?!” But luckily, you provided a detailed summary of how many of us in the Nation feel…elated, then deflated - but hopeful because that’s pretty much all we got left.

But overall I agree — stop with all the changes, we need some consistency and some time for things to develop!

  8. The Twerp Says:

THE RAIDERS ACCORDING TO THE TWERP

Raiders: 20-66 in their last 86 games.

    Raiders: 6 head coaches in 7+ seasons… soon-to-be 7 head coaches in 8 seasons.

    Raiders: Redefining losing dull.

Raiders: 5-28 vs. the AFC West.

    Raiders: 0-10 vs. the Chargers.

    TWERPING TRUTH

John (Yes, Al) Herrera has your back, Raiderholic Nation.

The Raiders are the Humpty-Dumpty of the NFL.

Next Raiders’ loss scheduled for Oct. 19th vs. the Jets.

    TWERP’S FINAL THOUGHTS

Here are the REAL Raiders’ mottoes:

    “Just lose, baby.”

    “Commitment to excrement.”

it is in vogue to critic the raiders our team our owner and our way of “moving forward” five years ago we sold our souls and we have been paying the piper ever since we need a period of steady seas a period where we can develop our young talent and accept this will be a hard time but it will end these times will pass

  11. slvrnblk00 Says:

There is no excuse for JaMarcus. He is another Vince Young. Matt Ryan is a rookie look how good he is doing.Joe Flacco a rookie too he is doing much better. All that money that was spent in the off season was a waste. Javon Walker a waste. Tommy Kelly is as slow as my grandma another waste. Deangelo Hall worthless. Thanks AL. Tom Cable I feel sorry for you. Rob Ryan needs to go too. We are going to continue to be the worst team in the NFL as long as AL keeps running the show. Another wasted season. It’s sad when the best player on the team is the punter. Our only pro-bowler. Sad!!!!!!

  12. stuart kerton Says:

yes matt ryan does look great, but he is a completly diferant style of qb he was much more “finished”coming out of college but jamarcus has much greater potenial much more scope to use a greter range of natural talent.we can not judge j walker to harshly he had a terriable offseason and is learning a new system allready with a second new coach and a raw qb give him time.i agree with the tommy kelly coment a waste an overpaid waste.d hall is now showing slow improvement and this has to keep on a upward curve again patience is needed.the biggest problem i see is rob ryan he needs to go and go soon

  13. slvrnblk00 Says:

Hey news Flash. Al hasn’t fired Tom Cable yet. It’s hard being a Raider fan now a days. My patience is running out. I have been patiant for the past 6 years. We need to stop living in the past.

  14. EB Says:

Mr. Davis hires players that want big money to lose ballgames, I say the defense should stop cashing their checks for awhile, and that goes for the offense as well, not to mention the coaches that had two weeks to prepare and put up a field goal. I don’t think I’ve seen players this o.k. with losing but I guess all those millions help. I think they should also get better scouts because I’m tired of watching other teams fifth round pick play better than my number one pick.

  15. RaiderBob'55 Says:

Sorry Brother Raiders, I didn’t want to waste my time going to a bar to see the fourth quarter this time. But I’d hate to think that any of those players would be complacent about their performance on Sunday. If they had a chance to acquire Drew Brees from San Diego, Coach Davis dropped the ball again!

  16. broncostew Says:

Sorry fellas, but the raiders just stink. JWalker and Lelie weren’t worth the money. The entire team looked dejected vs the Saints. Al needs to hire a real GM and not a crony (so do the Broncos). JaM will be a good NFL Qb but needs time and an offensive line. You Al supporters, the head of any organization is ultimately responsible for the outcome. Since Allen and Gruden left, it’s been bad. Al is the one constant. raiders may set a new record this year. First team to lose 12 games 4 yrs straight.
