Centennial-Corona, the team De La Salle beat in the CIF Division I state football title game, had a few interesting college commitments over the past week.
The most interesting is RB Ryan Bass, who was a finalist for state player of the year honors. Bass originally committed to Arizona along with Centennial quarterback Matt Scott. Apparently, that’s not the case now. Rivals.com reports that Bass has changed his mind and has now committed to attend Arizona State. And, Bass isn’t the only Centennial player headed to Tempe. Linebacker Brandon Magee (a 3-star talent according to Rivals) and linebacker Shelly Lyons (2-stars according to Rivals) are also heading to ASU.
In the championship game against DLS, I recall thinking Lyons was a very good player. Great athleticism and a nose for the ball. He tended to get overlooked at times this year because he played with Magee and junior standout Vontaze Burfict but Lyons was quite good in his own right. Unfortunately I never got to see Magee, as he missed Centennial’s last two games of the year for disciplinary reasons.
