CIF State Wrestling: The Day After

Well we’re getting set to depart Bakersfield but, as usual, I thought I’d leave my final thoughts on the tournament that was.
1. Big time congrats are due to Liberty’s David Klingsheim. He worked his tail off all year long and he beat the absolute best in the state to get his first state title. Nobody deserved it more than him.
2. What can you say about Jason Welch? So much has been said and made about his achievements but the one thing I’ll always remember is the humility in the face of sheer dominance. The kid never got big-headed and he had every reason to. I’m sure we’ll be hearing about him again soon.
3. We lost our picks in the epic crash last night but, to the best of my recollection, I reclaimed my pick ‘em title. From what I can tell, I hit 10 right and Hoose and Durkin had 8. Guys, feel free to ask for a re-count.
Alright, I’m taking off. I’ll have more wrestling news as we get into the postseason but I’ll also start featuring some softball and baseball news. Spring is here!

Ben, great job as usual!! We really appreciate your coverage of prep sports. It makes it much more enjoyable to follow high school athletics & helps give the kids a greater sense of accomplishment.
