The final week of the regular season is behind us. It’s playoff time!
- First things first. Congrats to league champs Clayton Valley (DVAL), De La Salle (EBAL), Campolindo (DFAL), Berkeley (ACCAL), and Encinal (BSAL). Whatever happens in these next few weeks, at least you know you’re already champions.
- MY BAD (it was a long, long morning)! Let’s add in those other champions. Pittsburg (BVAL), Washington (MVAL), San Leandro (HAAL), and Salesian (BFL). Everyone deserves praise round here.
- And special congrats are due to the two unbeaten teams, Encinal and Clayton Valley. What a season for both teams. It’s a great atmosphere, watching a team finish a season like that. There were more than a few teary eyes at the Clayton win on Saturday.
- I was also at the Monte Vista/SRV game and man, did San Ramon come to play. That said, Monte Vista absolutely shot itself in the foot with penalties. Every time I turned around there was a flag on the ground. Great game though as usual by SRV’s Joe Southwick. He was the better quarterback on that night. We could see a rematch next weekend if SRV beats San Leandro.
- Alright, my initial playoff impressions. This weekend has the traditional long drives and north versus south matchups. But next weekend is the one I think we can all get excited about. Here are just a few games that could happen: California-Pittsburg, Concord-Clayton Valley, Monte Vista-San Ramon Valley, Foothill-Freedom, Las Lomas-Rancho Cotate, Novato-Piedmont, Ferndale-St. Patrick-St. Vincent. That could be a fun weekend.
- I’m told that the Division II meeting was the most contentious but I think in the end, the committee got it right by putting Ygnacio Valley in. That’s most definitely a playoff team.
- No news yet on live blogs for this weekend, but I’m working on a plan to hopefully blog on Saturday. We’ll see how it goes.
Alright, not much to say today I guess. The guys on Prep Corner dissected everything pretty well yesterday so if you haven’t checked that out, check it out. I’m not sure where I’m headed this weekend yet, but when I know, you’ll know. See you this weekend.

No mention of the MVAL league champ, Washington?? Was that intentional?
November 17th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Guess WASHINGTON was not a league champ?

My bad fellas. Way to keep me honest. You’d think I’d even remember a Pitt team that I’ve seen three times this year. I gave the appropriate props to everyone.

Any final stats for BSAL? Haven’t been able to find them for the last couple of weeks…Thanks!

Piedmontfan,
I hear you. The BSAL dont get a whole lot of respect. Obviously. The writers tend to distance themselves when it comes to the BSAL. Look at Kyle B. You can tell he just hates the fact that Encinal is even getting mentioned in the state bowl game. And BSAL stats aint easy to find either.

My guess is that the BSAL doesn’t get much attention because it is such a bad league. Encinal is decent but does not run the table if they play in another league or against better competition in non-league. As for the rest of the BSAL, it is one average Div IV team and the rest are AWFUL.

BTW - I’m not a “fella.” I’m a female fan. LOL
