Over the past year, the youth in our different programs here at EBAYC have worked countless hours in various digital arts projects, centered around the theme of “OAKLAND: MY HOME, MY PRISON, MY FREEDOM”, and have produced amazing projects that explore the places they live, the struggles they go through, and the ways they are free to be themselves. Designed to allow for honest expression that is creative as well as critical, the projects range from video documentaries, digital storytelling, photography, graphic arts, silk screening, and video game design.

THE HONOR ROLL…

The African American Education Task Force proudly announces our Annual Academic Achievement Celebration. Our celebration honors African American students in Oakland Public Schools with a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Students from 8th Grade through 12th Grade are honored. The students receive a certificate, which recognizes their achievement and a program which will include talent performances and featured speakers. Light refreshments will be served following the celebration. The event is again scheduled to be held at ACTS FULL GOSPEL CHURCH on Monday, June 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The address is 1034 66th Ave., Oakland, CA 94621. With great pride, we invite all to attend and recognize the stellar achievement of our African American students.

On Saturday, June 9, 2007, ECHO (Education Coalition for Hispanics in Oakland) and OUSD will present the 7th Annual Latino Student Honor Roll. We will be awarding certificates of outstanding academic achievement to some 1,700 middle and high school Latino students from the Oakland public schools, who have achieved and maintained a 3.0 GPA or better.

For the past 7 years, ECHO has honored these Latino students in a unique celebration, because we strongly believe that public recognition serves as a positive incentive, and motivates students to strive to reach academic excellence. In a district where the Latino population’s dropout rate is alarmingly high, we are proud to honor these bright Latino scholars, and encourage them to stay in school.
