The California Department of Education website shows that the number of sixth graders in about 10% lower than the number of fifth graders, but that the number of students testing Proficient or higher drops by 25%.

I teach part time and i hate whiteboards and much prefer chalkboards. Whiteboard pens die all the time, and the boards don’t erase well.

On a separate note, i don’t like when people teach with powerpoint presentations. I feel that the audience tunes out, doesn’t bother to take notes because they can get the handout, etc.

Questions:
Are the budgets for individual OUSD schools public info?
What percentage of OUSD 5th graders stay in the OUSD for middle school?
(my general perception is that people think many of the elementary schools are ok, but that it gets worse after that)

As a long-term teacher, I very much prefer chalkboards to whiteboards. Most teachers do. Whiteboards are hard to keep clean, and the markers dry up very quickly. I’ve had some that last as little as a single period, and they also emit noxious odors. Nope, gimme chalk, however dusty, any day.

By the way, there are plenty of chalkboards all through the district. Just ask around.
