Katy,

It was a pleasure to meet you at our last PTA meeting. As President of Joaquin Miller
PTA, we too have a solid enrollment of over 200 parents and it continues to grow.
We are gearing up for our biggest fundraiser of the year, our auction, on
November 3rd and we will follow-up with our Spring Walk-a-Thon, as well as a few
other smaller events. These fundraisers support a number of enrichment activities for
our students, including, physical education, teachers aides, and supplemental
academics. Thanks to a number of community supporters, our staff, parents, and
students, we recently completed a beautiful garden at the entrance to our school.
JM continues to be a school that provides a wonderful education for our students and is
supported by an active parent group.

Regards,

Glynis Mason

Well, since you hinted....I'm the PTA Prez at Crocker Highlands Elementary school. We have a very active parent community and with their help we are able to provide vocal music, computer, P.E. and a library aide for the Crocker kids. Its a sizable sum of money that we have to raise every year to do this, which gets exhausting. But this year we had our first Crocker home and garden tour called Shades of Green which was very succesful. The nice thing about it was that we drew on the community at large rather than on just the parent community.

We also got a $50,000 from Councilwoman Kernighan to resurface and renovate our playground. We are just waiting for the district to get going on that. We hope to have it all completed this summer. Thanks to her for that.
