The Cash for College Workshops are a project of the East Bay Consortium. EBC is a fantastic organization that does work at almost all of the schools in Oakland. They've got a true cadre of dedicated young professionals guiding our students into college. We're lucky to have them.

And they've done a great job recruiting assistance from other education programs (like the one I work for) to help out at these events!

Katy,

Thanks for the important story and update. There are plenty of grants and funding sources for post k-12 education. FAFSA is a great program through the federal government that provides funding sources; generally regardless of eligibility. I would encourage students (and those of us who want to go back to school) to take advantage. The drawback is that with the high cost of higher education, the borrower has taken on a "second mortgage," so to speak and will be paying it off for the foreseeable future. Ultimately, the student benefits from the education and will greatly increase their chances of future job earnings.
