Some photos of Oakland kids who competed last week at an elementary school chess tournament. These pictures, which I just found, were taken for the Tribune by photographer Zach Land-Miller:

These photos were from a tournament put on by the Berkeley Chess School. Several elementary schools in Oakland received free chess lessons once a week from chess masters, and learned a lot about strategy, critical thinking, and patience. I’m a teacher at Maxwell Park, and my students benefited so much from the lessons and from the experience of the tournament. Thanks Berkeley Chess School!
