A message from the kids at PS22

I know, these kids are from New York, not Oakland, but someone told me about this video and I couldn’t help but post it. The fifth-graders in this public school choir sing everything from Coldplay to Lady Gaga — and Journey — with so much gusto. Wait till you hear the soloist.

Alright, not to be outdone by NYC!, since you posted this, I thought I would send a link to a You Tube video of some of the 5th graders at Crocker Highlands Elementary in Oakland singing a song that the fabulous vocal music teacher Jill Rose not only wrote, but teaches all the grades every year around the holiday season. No solos here, but its a beautiful song, and the kids sound fabulous.

Hey, thanks for the link! I’d like to post more short You Tube videos on the blog.

What a great video -the kids were so into the song. Those lyrics will stay with the kids forever. Long live music education!

Cantare con vivo provides in school and after school choral music for four Oakland schools: Lafayette, Lincoln, Cleveland, and Melrose Leadership. They were featured in a KTVU piece,

which didn’t really showcase the excellence of their music; the choir won a state choral championship last year with these kids, who have been in the choir since elementary school! Cantare’s adult choir is the only one on you tube, but you can get a better idea of their work from their website:
