Liquid diet: School officials to fast in protest

A group of school board members, administrators and parents at the Oxnard School District in Ventura County are giving up solid food for seven days in protest of the state budget cuts, according to the Ventury County Star.
They call themselves Solidarity to Achieve and Recover Valued Education, or STARVE.
Do you know anyone in Oakland or Alameda County who has starved themselves for public education? (Skipping lunch to help a struggling student doesn’t count.)

During the protracted teacher strike in the 95-96 school year, there was a minister who went on a hunger strike in support of both teachers and students. I remember her name was Rev Bettina, but can not remember her last name. She did not eat for at least 2-3 weeks. She was a lovely woman, but unfortunately died within a year or so of cancer.
Sorry for any factual errors as I am relying on some old memories.

I believe it was Rev. Betita Cody–does that sound right?

My name is Denis O’Leary. I am a parent, teacher in the Rio School District and President of the Oxnard School District. I am also a faster participating in the 7 day fast. We are collecting signatures of people who call for the restoration of education funds. We will deliver the signatures to the Governor’s office on August 25.
