Thanks to Jamie Morgan and the MLK school community for giving this group of kids a chance to have some art experience to balance their learning for the duration of the project. MLK has a pretty close knit community. Obviously they were concerned that the kids wanted to be involved in making their school environment look appealing. Their ownership in this is priceless! Some of You People have got to get a grip.
Thank goodness today is the last day of the school year!

Sue: Maybe you are too young to remember the USSR, and Red China under Mao. How about Germany under the housepainter??

Do you not understand the revulsion and loathing we have for the worship of a come-from-nowhere living person? Maybe it's my age but we have seen this before and many have lived under it. We know the signs.

It is not a healthy thing to teach children to worship personally a living political leader like this. Or any Cult leader, especially someone like this man.

I know this. Like I know the sun rises. You don't. Don't know how you grew up. Tell us about it.

When I see this, I see kids being set up to be victims - or somebody's fool. I see kids who are being treated as less than citizens, rabble, the mob. I think they are being shortchanged because they are black (you won't get that one, I know - but it is there). You don't see this being pulled with Jewish kids.

I see RED.

Reminds me of my elementary school days. Back in the 60's and early 70's, didn't everyone's classroom have pictures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln?

And we had two holidays in February - the 12th was Washington's birthday, and the 22nd was Lincoln's - and we knew *why* we had those two days off. How much does any "Monday holiday" - MLK day or any other - mean to most kids today?

Pictures in a classroom are fine, but even better would be teaching students who those people were, what they did for the country, and why we're honoring them with a holiday.
