Here comes the bride … to the schoolyard

Talk about an exciting last day of school. Teachers Candace Chang and Jesse Inclan decided to tie the knot this morning at the place where they fell in love: Hillcrest School in Oakland.
Beverly Rothenberg, the school principal, performed the surprise outdoor ceremony before about 325 students and many of their parents. Chang wore a knee-length wedding dress and the groom, a physical education teacher, wore a light-colored suit. The kids blew bubbles at the end.
“Everyone had a big smile on their face for the rest of the day because it was so uplifting,” Rothenberg said. “It was so happy.”
A short story and photo will appear in tomorrow’s Tribune.

Best wishes to the happy couple! I don’t know the bride, but the groom has been an absolute dynamo at the school (not Hillcrest) where I teach.

Ms. Chang and Mr. Inclan were my first grade teachers. I went back to find my grade-school teachers, and was so surprised to find Ms. Candace Inclan. Wow!
