Just after midnight, 19-year-old Rachael Green was killed and five others — 14 to 18 years old — were wounded at a West Oakland vigil for another teenage homicide victim, 17-year-old Damon Williams.

Just last week, Green graduated from Bunche Academy, an alternative school in West Oakland where Williams also was enrolled. Four Bunche students, including Williams, have died violently since the 2009-10 school year began, according to the Tribune story.

A 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were hospitalized and in critical condition; the others were treated for more minor injuries.

All of this on the first week of summer.

This may not be directly on point but this book, the articles online about it and the author’s speeches and commentaries does discuss how the USA is splitting into Castes which are “Separate and unequal families in a post-marital age”. The book cover is especially telling. A white family in a museum looking at an exhibit of photos of a black family.

Flying Lead Poisoning is a hazard for the black castes.
I read the Trib article and don’t see much about how the parents of the shooting victims were standing with them when they were shot. One wonders if there was a prior parent-child discussion about the wisdom of attending a vigil for an Oakland gunshot victim such as here. You can see that was really a bad idea.

If you think these shootings are bad now they are going to get much worse in the next 12 to 60 months as California De-Polices the ghettos. The withdrawal of police services is already well under way silently and without fanfare.

Another student was shot and died while we were conducting board meeting last night. The count for the year of students enrolled at an OUSD school is 20.
By the way, the police come after the shooting, not before. It has been ap[parent over the years that police presence does not deter the killings.
