Good gracious! This is an amazing way to donate money AND try four fabulous cocktails! I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never been to any of these places even though I’ve heard great things about them.

As for the issue about why those schools were selected, this fundraiser was probably thought up by some civic minded people who wanted to give back to their neighborhood school or their children’s schools. Seems like a great idea to me and very generous of the restaurants.

These establishments are in the attendance boundaries of Westlake and Tech, but not Crocker Highlands, so Owen’s question is a good one. The elementary schools whose boundaries include this area are Lafayette and Lakeview.

I’ll reserve judgment until I find out: Anyone know how the schools were chosen? I was about to send out a big mass-invite until I saw Crocker on there, having seeing CH parents suggesting they don’t know why their school is a beneficiary. Anyone know!

This is my kind of fundraiser: music, great food, and creative drinks.
I have copied a short exert from the press release:

Luka’s, Picán, Ozumo and Era are throwing an Uptown Block Party & Back to School Fundraiser for Oakland public
schools . A $20 donation to our schools gets partygoers a complimentary cocktail at each venue and access to all
the other specials on offer that night, including Southern barbecue at Picán, dollar oysters at Luka’s and special
guest DJ’s and dancing on every corner. All proceeds from ticket sales go to benefit Oakland public schools.

This is fabulous! However, I can’t help but question the elementary school choice. Why not select a school that has a hard time collecting donations and educates under-served students?
