Lincoln demonstrates something very important (and the lack of chatter on this post, as opposed to Duncan’s Kabuki visit to the land of no-reform-here-no-way, makes very clear it’s not being seen).

Oakland’s problems are not structural. Proficiency at Lincoln is in the 80%’s and 90%’s while there are many schools are in the single digits.

And it’s not that the student’s are white and rich. We’re not talking Hillcrest. We’re talking flatlands, low income, not very far in fact from the high crime areas of West Oakland or East Oakland.

Quite to the contrary. This ain’t Kansas.

So what excuses are there for every other low income, non-white non-middle class, school?

Chew on that.

The sound of silence.
