For such a decent blog there are always ignorant people commenting, I guess thats par for the course. A little lesson for my little friends: Ms. Hinton-Hodge is probably the most reform monded member of the school board and is often at odds with the other board members interested in protecting the status quo. She han been accused of trying to give away her district to charter schools like Kipp Bridge, even though it’s one of the best charters in the state.

By no means has she been perfect, but there are 5-6 other board members who deserve these harsh comments before her.

Not very many, you can count on that. Principals get canned regularly, but teachers fired for incompetence are rare.

Sure glad a member of our school board does not speak a word about real education reform. It embues me with total confidence that there is zero chance Oakland schools will be anything but what it continues to be– a dropout factory.

Where is the interest in merit pay for exceptional teachers and lower pay for poorly performing teachers (and ultimately firing for those who cannot figure out how to improve)? Ending inane tenure protection?

One single question for our distinguished board member:

In the last ten years, over which time an astounding share of our students dropped out (and in particular 2/3 of all AA males), how many teachers have been fired for incompetence?
