Student-teaching in Oakland

I recently visited Sobrante Park Elementary School, and when I stopped by Michelle Ramos-Stokes’ second-grade classroom, I observed a class ritual — a language arts drill led by 8-year-old Shelly Currington. She seemed quite at ease in front of the class.
I caught some of the lesson on my trusty Flip camera. Enjoy.

Thank you for posting this awesome video–what a nice way to begin my day. I used to teach 8th grade in Oakland and I know that it’s a lot of work to train your whole class, and also to get kids this confident with leading. Kudos to Ms. Ramos-Stokes!

Wasn’t there an OEA rep vote on a strike yesterday? Any word on results?

No strike. I’m sure someone at the meeting would have more details, but Betty Olson-Jones told me the majority of the reps decided it would be best to focus energy on a week of action in May. I’ll have more details on that soon.

I BELIEVE THAT THIS TEACHER IS DOING ASTOUNDING JOB AND SHOULD BE COMMENDED!
