Once a month, the Energy Blog features an Energy Superstar - an individual or individuals who have made a valuable contribution in the area of energy in the Bay Area. This month, Gary Gerber of Berkeley gets the nod as our superstar.
Gerber drives an electric car and wears a solar-powered watch. He’s president and founder of a company that installs solar energy panels for homeowners, Sun Light and Power, in Berkeley.
The company’s trucks run on biodiesel fuel, and the conference room table is made of recycled glass; the floor is made of recycled soda bottles. (We’re not making this up, honest.) Kudos to you, Gary!
Do you know someone who has made a valuable contribution in the area of energy in the Bay Area? If you do, e-mail jmara@angnewspapers.com with their name and accomplishments, or just click the “Comment” button and post the info here.

Like so many, Gary foolishly bought into the idea that the electric
car is the cleanest, probably because that silly Zero Emisions law said so. If you lok at the fine print, the law states that cars that emit no emissions themselves are designated zero emission vehicles. The catch here is that it doesn’t say anything about how clean the electricity is that charges its batteries. For California, that means predominently fossil fule fird power plants. In fact, the Honda Impulse gasoline hybrid produces less overall emissions that any electric car. Sorry, Gary, but you should have done a little research before buying that smog producing electric car you’r driving. You’ll excuse me if I decline to offer any praise to augment your own self congratulatory praise.

kent, i don’t know about what mr. gerber does, but it is possible that he has a solar powered charging system or that he purchases wind energy credits for the electricity used by his car…
