It’s been quite the weekend for my team - I lost Nate Burleson and anyone on my team who had ever even visited Jacksonville performed terribly.

Can you give any comments on the the few things that have been kicking around this morning?

    - Nate Burleson obviously had to go, I picked up Felix Jones out of Free Agency (couldn’t believe he was still there). I now have three backup RB’s (Jones, Ray Rice and Selvin Young) but no backup WR’s. Should I be looking at a trade right now or wait and see if things get any worse?
    - With the state of the Jacksonville O-Line, is it still worth starting MJD?
    - Should I be thinking about ditching David Garrard for someone like Matt Ryan? I’m in a 2QB league and moved him to the bench in favour of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers (what a pair).
    - Do you think Steven Jackson and Santonio Holmes can bounce back from disappointing first weeks?

  2. Danny Willis Says:

    Kimble:

    1) If you’ve got an excessively deep group at one position and nobody at another always be in the market for a trade. Your best bet is to have a balance on your bench, enough people so you’ll never have to start a free agent pickup due to injury. Don’t force it but shop Rice and Young around and see if you can get a good deal for one of them.

    2) As much as I hate to admit it (MJD is a De La Salle alum and I went to Ygnacio Valley, I’m required to hate him) Jones-Drew is a very good player. I wouldn’t give up on him after one bad game, even a bad Week 1 game.

    3) See above. Garrard had one bad game after a very good 2007 season, Ryan had one good game against the Lions as a rookie. I think Ryan may turn into a solid backup but I wouldn’t drop Garrard for him at this point.

    4) As for Jackson, again, see above. The biggest mistake people make is dropping an established player for someone who had a good week. Patience is a virtue. Steven Jackson will put up decent numbers, he may not be Marshall Faulk but he’s not done. Holmes isn’t as established but he’s on a very good team, he’s no worse than a #3 WR barring injury or another week or two of poor numbers.

damn, i had a longer post here but the page died as i was submitting it. basically i was asking if i should start Rodgers or Romo
    Rodgers vs. DET
    Romo vs. Philly
(standard free yahoo fantasy league scoring)
how much of a factor will philly’s secondary be in limiting romo? last year when the boys played philly romo had 324 yd/3td and then 214 yd/0td in the loss… and now this year philly has asante.

as for the lions … well, they are the lions. matt ryan shredded them up like crazy. rodgers had a pretty good game considering who he was just playing, and as we all know BLAH BLAH BLAH BRETT FAVRE PRESSURE ON RODGERS IS SO INTENSE.

that’s probably the only dilemma i’m having so far this week. which is why i’m looking for extra opinions on it.

  4. Danny Willis Says:

    Unagi:

Rodgers, easy. Romo should have a good game - he’s a good, consistent player - but if a rookie on a terrible team can complete 69% of his passes against the Lions a fourth-year veteran on a playoff team should blow them up.

Meanwhile, Philly held Marc Bulger, a Pro Bowl player, to a 54% completion percentage for a 6.1 yard average.

  5. simon Says:

Hey, what do you think about dropping Ray Rice for Pierre Thomas? My league has 1 point for 20 return yards. Do you think Thomas has more upside than Rice considering McGahee looks set to start week 2 and Deuce is still questionable?

  6. Danny Willis Says:

    Simon:

I’d have to disagree about Thomas having more upside than Rice for two reasons.

First, Rice is the primary backup to McGahee whereas Thomas is still stuck behind Reggie Bush, who was supposed to be pretty good and might be realizing his potential. Even when McGahee is healthy Rice will vulture a decent number of carries, but when Deuce comes back Thomas will hit the bench so hard it’ll make his head spin.

Second, Rice is the future in Baltimore. They love what they see from him and seem to think he’s a better long-term solution than McGahee. Even when McGahee comes back I’d be surprised if they didn’t work Rice into the offense more and more to see if he’s a viable #1.

Plus, an added bonus reason, if you’re not married to Rice his trade value is high right now. Don’t cut someone you can trade.

  7. Kimble Says:

Hey again, Danny. What would you think about dropping Roddy White for Devery Henderson?

Also, do you think Felix Jones could be a smarter option then Ryan Grant given Grant’s hamstring and limited carries?

  8. Danny Willis Says:

Henderson is a good short-term solution, he’s going to get a lot of looks while Colston is hurt. As long as you’re fine with his numbers dropping off in 4-6 weeks it’s a decent move.

As for Jones vs. Grant I’d heard from a couple sources that Grant might not even play this week, but it looks like he fully practiced today so he’ll likely start. If he does he’s probably the best RB play of the week. I mean, look what Turner did against that defense, and Grant is a better back with a better line. Pencil Grant in as starter but be sure to be up early and check my Gametime Decision post 9:30 a.m. Sunday for his last-minute status.

  9. Domenic Says:

Not sure if you’re still answering questions, but thought I’d give it a shot. This is my first year playing and can’t decide who to start at WR, I was thinking Desean Jackson over Holt and Santana Moss, but not sure what the fluke last week was, Holt playing poorly or Jackson having a strong game. Also having trouble looking for a swing man, Reggie Bush is my first choice, but can’t decide if he’s the better pick over Brandon Jacbos. Final question, Titans @ CIN or Green Bay @ DET. I just picked up the Titans and I’m thinking even without Haynesworth the Bengals seem pretty weak at the o-line.

Thanks for the help. I followed your advice last week and it paid off.

  10. Danny Willis Says:

We’re on duty 24/7, I’m answering questions right up through 10 a.m. kickoff. Then I’m not on duty because I’m watching three games.

Anyway, questions: as for the receivers I’d probably stay away from Desean. The Cowboys will put up more of a fight than the Rams so I’d hold off to see how he does against a quality defense. I’d go with Santana Moss.

Bush and Jacobs are both great plays this week. Both defenses got torched last week. Honestly, you might as well flip a coin. The only thing that might shift it is Colston’s injury, the Saints may run more, but you’re set either way.

Finally: Green Bay. The Lions are awful.
