Fantasy on TV for Sept. 28-29

I’m running a little late with this, I know, but it’s a list of teams we’ve seen before for the most part so there’s not a whole lot to say.  The only fantasy power we haven’t seen yet is the Saints.  So I’ll get right to it.

10 a.m. Sept. 28: 49ers at Saints, Fox
1 p.m. Sept. 28: Chargers at Raiders, CBS
5:15 p.m. Sept. 28: Eagles at Bears, NBC
5:30 p.m. Sept. 29: Ravens at Steelers, ESPN

Fox, 10 a.m.

San Francisco 49ers

Fantasy Star

RB Frank Gore: He’s still the only tried-and-true fantasy star on the team - #5 in the NFL in rushing - but thanks to the Mike Martz offense some parts of the passing game are racing to join him.  He could have a good day against the Saints’ 22nd ranked rush defense.

Players to Watch

WRs Bryant Johnson and Isaac Bruce: Making yet another appearance on this list are the 49ers wide receivers, but they can never quite crack the Fantasy Stars list.  Before they can be considered viable options they need to put up solid numbers against a respectable secondary…and they aren’t going to find that against the 29th-ranked Saints.

QB JT O’Sullivan: I spend a lot of time preaching the gospel of the numbers here so I can’t hold on to my anti-O’Sullivan bias any longer.  He’s 11th in the league in yards, tied for 12th in touchdowns and a surprising 4th in quarterback rating.  Those aren’t starter numbers, but if he can keep it up they’re well into the range of backup numbers.

New Orleans Saints

Fantasy Stars

QB Drew Brees: Meanwhile, while O’Sullivan has solid backup numbers, Brees is #1 in passing yards, tied for #5 in touchdowns and #5 in quarterback rating.  Those, my dear friends, are every week starter numbers.

RB Reggie Bush: While he’s still no Mario Williams, Reggie Bush is starting to prove himself worthy of the hype.  He should further pad his resume against a very porous 49ers run defense.

Player to Watch

WR Devery Henderson: With Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey hurt Henderson becomes one of the top passing targets in the very prolific Saints offense.  If he shows something, anything, against the very solid 49ers secondary he’s worth a roster spot, at least until Colston comes back and maybe even beyond.

CBS, 1 p.m.

San Diego Chargers

Fantasy Stars

QB Phillip Rivers: Forget about Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Carson Palmer.  Just forget about them.  They aren’t the fantasy stars anymore.  The new fantasy stars are Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo and Phillip Rivers.  We’ve gone over Brees’ impressive ratings so let’s look at Rivers; #1 in quarterback rating, #1 in passing touchdowns, #5 in yards per game.  Again, those say every week starter.

RB LaDanian Tomlinson: Speaking of changing of the guard, Tomlinson is 17th in yards and tied for 15th in touchdowns.  In a 10-team league that means he should be a #2 RB at best and his injury, turf toe, tends to linger.  Try to find a trade partner and get something for him before the trend continues.

WR Chris Chambers: That’s right, he’s a fantasy star now.  If you have him start him.

Players to Watch

RB Darren Sproles: Here’s Jeremiah’s profile of his five and a half feet of fury. There’s not a whole lot to say that he didn’t.

WR Vincent Jackson: A quarterback doesn’t get to #1 in any statistical category only throwing to one wide receiver and Jackson’s consistently solid numbers are proof of that.  He’s a viable #2 or #3 receiver until Rivers starts to look mortal.

Oakland Raiders

Fantasy Star

RB Darren McFadden: Yes, Oakland has a fantasy star, and it’s Run DMC.  Especially with Fargas out he’s going to put up some numbers, nagging injury or no.  If he plays, play him.

Player to Watch

RB Michael Bush: From Jeremiah’s profile of a player to Steve Corkran’s, I’m all about letting others say it today.  All I can add is that in Fargas’ absense Bush is a pretty good play.

NBC, 5:15 p.m.

Philadelphia Eagles

Fantasy Stars

QB Donovan McNabb: We just had an Eagles game a couple weeks ago and very little has changed.  If McNabb plays, start him.

RB Brian Westbrook: B-West is a little more nicked up than McNabb but, again, he’s good, if he plays he should be in your starting lineup.  Check Gametime Decision here Sunday morning for the final word.

Player to Watch

WR DeSean Jackson: Despite not starting Jackson is in the top ten in receiving yards.  If he’s available in your league pick him up right now and wait to see if he keeps it up.

Chicago Bears

Fantasy Star

RB Matt Forte: The rookie is fourth in the NFL in rushing yards, but is flying far enough under the radar that he might still be hanging around the waiver wire.  Rememdy that situation as soon as possible, even if he struggles against a solid Eagles D.

Player to Watch

WR Brandon Lloyd: I had to dig pretty deep for this one, yeah, but if you want a player to watch he would be it.  He’s as close to the Bears have gotten to a #1 receiving option.  Plus he has put up halfway decent numbers, at least for Brandon Lloyd.

ESPN, 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22

Baltimore Ravens

Fantasy Stars

RB Willis McGahee: He’s not really a star, he’s just the only Ravens offensive player you might have on your roster.  Don’t take this as a recommendation.

Player to Watch

I’ve got nothing.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Fantasy Stars

RB Willie Parker: WILLIE PARKER IS NOT PLAYING THIS WEEK. Get him out of your starting lineup.

QB Ben Roethlisberger: He’s one of the highly touted new class of star quarterbacks, and #1 according to Terry Bradshaw, but he’s not quite as solid from a fantasy perspective.  Of course that doesn’t mean he’s bad, just not as good as some other options.

Player to Watch

RB Rashard Mendenhall: He’ll be starting in place of Willie Parker.  If he can keep his severe fumble problems under control he would be a great play.  But man does he fumble the ball a lot…
