I think I need to keep up with my fashion facts more diligently…apparently, people knew about this before me…
That aside, Hollywood icon, Marlon Brando was chic, handsome and he was one of the world’s most desirable men (this was more in the days of “Streetcar Named Desire”).
He seemed to have passed the hottie torch onto his grandson, Tuki Brando. Here he is on the cover of L’uomo Vogue:
To make things SCORCHIN’ hot, this homeboy is now the new face of Versace:
(MILAN) Tuki Brando, grandson of actor Marlon Brando, and a young up-and-coming actor in his own right, has been named the new face of the Versace Fall 2007 men’s campaign. The handsome teenager, born to the late Tarita Cheyenne Brando, recently graced the February cover of L’Uomo Vogue. “I live in Tahiti most of the year, so we don’t wear much,” he admitted at the Versace men’s show Saturday. “But I think Versace’s a cool brand.”
Indeed, Donatella Versace’s spring collection of muted and sober suiting, trenchcoats, classic polos with dress shirt collars, and pared-down accessories, none of which featured the astonishing prints of yesteryear, was likely a result of the proxomity of the 10th year anniversary of the death of her brother, Gianni Versace, next month, and also due to the contributions of design consultant Alexandre Plokhov, the mastermind behind the now-defunct American label Cloak. “It’s a new world of luxury under the sign of the Medusa,” the designer said. Brando’s assimilation into the fashion world appeared to be seamless: Not only did he pose for photos alongside Versace for countless paparazzi backstage, but he also showed off his athletic prowess at the afterparty, quashing his competitors in a mean game of table tennis.
So what do you think? Is he HOT? or NOT? He looks abnormally pretty to me, but has these striking features that hypnotize you into thinking you are just as tan as him.
HOLLYWOOD - Pop star Britney Spears wants to reinvent her look–and hopes to take inspiration from the clothing choices of actress Katie Holmes.
The “Toxic” singer admits she is a great admirer of the Batman Begins star’s fashion choices and plans to revamp herself as a similar “classy” lady.
She says, “I like clothes. But I like to be comfortable, too.
“Katie always looks so cute in her Armani and Manolo Blahnik stuff. I’m gonna go for that vibe and all the trimmings.”

Remember when Britney looked fancy? It didn’t matter if you loved her or hated her - she always managed to look good in one way or another…
It’s not that she’s HIDEOUS now, it’s just that it’s hard to live up to the style standard that you used to have. I mean, the “natural” look only works for some people.
It’s good that Britney found a style idol in Katie. Even though I’m not her biggest fan, Britney can use all the help she can get at this point.
She’s already transformed into a brunette, now all Brit needs to do is chop it off and then she’ll be on her way to be a Katie clone. Now she just needs to find a scientologist Hollywood superstar husband and her look will be complete!
One day, when I walked into my house, I smelled something so fresh and coconutty. I asked my roommate (an avid surfer) what it was and he showed me this candle. It wasn’t too strong nor did it smell like an over-perfumed hooker. The fragrance made me feel like I was coastside in Hawaii instead of street side in suburbia.
These surfwax candles (did I mention they burn up to 120 hours?) are excellent for the summer season and they add some great whimsy to home decor. And if I am not mistaken, they are made out of actual surfwax.
Out of all the candles I have used, this has to be my favorite.
It looks like we lost another influential designer. It’s a big loss for the industry…

Fashion company founder Liz Claiborne dies at 78

NEW YORK (AP) _ Fashion designer Liz Claiborne, whose styles became a cornerstone of career women’s wardrobes in the 1970s and 1980s, has died, the company she founded said Wednesday. She was 78.
Claiborne died Tuesday at the New York Presbyterian Hospital after suffering from cancer for a number of years, said Gwen Satterfield, personal assistant to Claiborne.
Claiborne founded Liz Claiborne Inc. in 1976 along with her husband Art Ortenberg and Leonard Boxer. Their goal was to create a collection of fashions aimed at the growing number of women entering the work force.
The new approach to dressing revolutionized the department store industry, which had only focused on stocking pants in one department and skirts in another.
The clothes became an instant hit, and the company went public in 1981. By 1985, Liz Claiborne Inc. was the first company founded by a woman to be listed in the Fortune 500, according to the company’s Web site. The company, whose brands now include Ellen Tracy, Dana Buchman and Juicy Couture, generated sales of almost $5 billion last year.
Liz Claiborne retired from the day-to-day operations in 1989.
“In losing Liz Claiborne, we have not only lost the founder of our company, but an inspirational woman who revolutionized the fashion industry 30 years ago,” said Bill McComb, CEO of Liz Claiborne, in a statement. “Her commitment to style and design is ever present in our thinking and the way we work. We will remember Liz for her vision, her entrepreneurial spirit and her enduring compassion and generosity.”
Of the original founders, Boxer retired from the company in 1985 and Claiborne and her husband retired in 1989. There have been a number of changes since then. Jerry Chazen, the fourth original partner, became the company’s chairman in 1989.
Paul R. Charron succeeded Chazen in the mid-1990s, and spearheaded an aggressive campaign to acquire different labels to diversify beyond the company’s namesake brands, which struggled with increased competition.
Last November, McComb joined the company as CEO, succeeding Charron, and is planning to overhaul the business again to meet the demands of the consolidated department store industry.

So the whole reason why I went to Texas was for the wedding of my college friends Isa (pronounced `ee-sah’) and Ray. The whole thing took place at a classic plantation home in Houston. It was very “Gone with the Wind” and I was just waiting for Scarlett O’Hara to come out and utter the words, “Fiddle dee-dee!”
She looked beautiful in her strapless gown with gorgeous detailing. The latte sash around her waist adds a gorgeous bout of latte glamour to the dress. It was definitely a fairy tale wedding set in the south complete with bubbles and all:
Even Isa’s childhood stuffed Raccoon (she has had this FOREVER) dressed up for the occasion. He served as the unofficial ring bearer…
For this occasion, I decided to take my tailor-made suit from Cassara’s in Dublin out for its first run:
This picture captures my friend Judi and I’s vulnerability and child-like innocence
This awkward picture is the result of many cameras taking photos all at once with my entourage of Texas friends, but I still manage to maintain my red carpet glamour…sort of.
The brilliant tailor, Tony Cassara, also fashioned me a custom-made French cuff shirt that fit like a DREAM. Please note the initials on the sleeves that give it some rakish charm:
As you can see, Judi and I draw inspiration in our picture posing skills from “America’s Next Top Model.” The other two beautiful ladies pictured are my friends Jaimee (a bridesmaid) and Jen.
Side note: Judi’s dress is vaguely reminiscent of that Cavalli dress Carrie Bradshaw wore in “Sex and the City” when she got her Manolos stolen in that alley. I just wanted to throw that in there.
Despite the humidity of Texas, it was so good to visit my old homestate. It was even better seeing my friends…and it was even better that I got the chance to sport my new suit.
I hope you enjoyed this vacation slideshow because I guarantee you there will be more…
Roberto Cavalli and H & M head of design Margareta van den Bosch work together to create their collaboration collection
It looks like the king of Italian extravagance, Roberto Cavalli is hopping on board the H & M train (much like Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney before him) to help design some men’s and women’s clothing for my favorite frugal retailer!
The Italian designer will create a one-off collection for women and men exclusively for H&M. The line will carry the vital touch and the intense sensuality typical of Roberto Cavalli, one of the world’s most exciting and creative fashion designers.
“Roberto Cavalli has created a world of his own, iconic and full of fantasy, when it comes to colours, prints, and style. There is no place for shyness and no possibility of ending up with a mainstream wardrobe of everyday basics. The Roberto Cavalli collections represents an exuberant, successful lifestyle”, says Margareta van den Bosch.
“As the first Italian designer in the history of H&M, I enthusiastically welcomed this invitation, proud to bring the lively and positive spirit of my work to a new audience, who will be able to see and interpret my style in an individual way. I love freedom and challenges: breaking down barriers, experimenting in different directions. H&M is all this for me. I will add a dash
of festivity and dreams”, explains Roberto Cavalli.
The “Roberto Cavalli at H&M” collection will be available in approximately 200 selected H&M stores worldwide for a limited period of time starting from November 8th 2007.
The line will consist of iconic menswear, 20 pieces, and womenswear, 25 pieces, including lingerie plus matching accessories.
Is anyone else besides me excited about this? I love it when big-time designers make their talented designs affordable to poor schmoes like myself! I am looking forward to what they are going to offer. Can we expect loads of animal print? I guess we’ll see!!!
Click here to watch this video of Roberto and Margareta talking about the new collection. I love Roberto’s carefree Italian accent. I think I am going to speak in one for the rest of the day.
There’s nothing like having a good meal in between shopping, exploring and spending time with good friends. In fact, when I go to Texas, I strategically plan which restaurants I have to go to while I am there. Sure, there is really good food here in the Bay, but in Texas, there are places that I HAVE to go to because they don’t have them here at all.
One of the places I adore in Texas is Pappadeaux (pronounced papa-DOE). It’s one of many restaurants in a long line eateries with the moniker “Pappa” before it - there’s “Pappasitos” (Tex Mex food), “Pappa’s Barbeque” - but I digress. Pappadeaux serves up some of the best Cajun seafood and everytime I go, I almost have a heart attack because I consume so much crawfish and other seafood goodies:
My friends Zaid and Jen look at the seafood fondue (this is like a bowl of heaven with cheese) and crabcakes with hungry eyes
Look at how much fun Janet, Edward and I are having with this food! These are not posed at ALL!
I always enjoy some good Tex Mex when I come here. Usually, the more unhealthy it is, the better it taste. Although, I don’t think Chuy’s (pronounced “chewy’s) isn’t THAT unhealthy. But I can tell you that it is WAY better than Chevy’s. They are all over Texas - we went to one in Houston.
The funky entrance to the Tex Mex eatery
They serve up some tasty salsa and this jalepeno ranch dipping sauce that is making my mouth water as we speak. Once again, this picture is not posed.
I ordered the baja shrimp tacos - it is much more hearty and tasty than that stuff I get at a certain eatery that will remain nameless. Please take note of the ’80s senior pictures featured.
Outside, there were these planters fashioned out of old tires and hubcaps - it was very “green” and clever. Now that’s how you reduce, reuse and recycle with style.
As I continued my walk down Austin’s South Congress, there was this new cube-like shopping center that didn’t exist when I was living there - and it was very chic.
The center had a boutique grocery store called Cissi’s Market and another branch of By George, an upscale luxury goods store that carries modern garb with prices that were not within my budget. More or less, it’s very “L.A.”:
Around the corner from these two spots is a store that I used to frequent called Service Menswear (the website is still under construction). Actually, it was in a different location when I lived in Austin, but now it has a brand new space, with the same top quality clothing.
The store carries modern, clean cut GQ-esque menswear for a gentleman that knows style and doesn’t want to over or underdo it. Jack Spade bags lined the countertop while genuine Levi’s jeans hung on the racks. They also had some great square cut swim trunks as well as a considerable selection of sunglasses, Haviana flip-flops, Modern Amusement apparel and other luxe brands that would make a dandy man grin.
I remember one time I came in during a big sale and scored some awesome Cardboard Robot and Modern Amusement tees for $5 each! That said, they do have some really good sales!
…and of course, they had a hearty amount of chic, Texas-style leather goods and accessories:
The final stop on SoCo was Factory People an uber-hip boutique that sells some of the best street fashions for the punky rock n’ roller. The industrial warehouse space is so cool, that as soon as you walk in, you feel like a rockstar:
Unfortunately, the sole employee working there told me that they will be closing the space soon and focus on their internet store (click here to visit). That is a shame, because I loved to come here to gawk at their A.P.C. merchandise (one of the few stores in Austin that carried the label) and funky home decor like their Ramones throw pillows:
…and if you haven’t noticed already, the place is bleeding with classy grafitti. The whole store merges renegade punk with rhythmic nuances of hip-hop - and it definitely draws a crowd. They are known for having live DJ’s during the day and their rooftop played host to many-a-parties and club-environment trunk shows:
Very Zen decor in the middle of the store
A DJ’s turntables sans the DJ
During my whole rebellious t-shirt phase, I remember when I bought some Milkcrate Athletics tops on sale - at a good price. I also got my signature Han Cholo B-boy necklace from here.
Before I met up my friends for a friendly happy hour and dinner, I had to make a stop at the coolest place in Austin…
…my old apartment. Can you believe I paid $505 a month for this 505 sq. foot studio? Those were the days…
