A “Nautical” tale: The creative director for Nautica, Mirian Lamberth tells us a runway story of a laid-back, no-frills man who can go from the boardroom to the ski slopes and beyond effortlessly. He’s an adventurer, but grounded. He’s a gentleman, but aggressive. He enjoys life and has a knack for mixing sportswear with business attire.
The colors: This years palette puts bold primary colors (blue, yellow and red) against a backdrop of neutrals. The use of white in the pants, jackets and knitwear adds a touch of WASPy cleanliness that I enjoy.
Any cool trends? Nothing really new here. Horizontal stripes made appearances via scarves and sweaters. The occasional chunky knit garment caught my eye. Puffy and double-breasted jackets seemed to be an ongoing theme. True to Nautica form, there’s lots of layering going on.
What I didn’t like: Layering is cool, but too much layering makes you look like the Michelin man. And I am not a fan of the silver metallic puffy jackets - it’s very Puff Daddy circa “Mo Money Mo Problems” era.
Overall conclusion? It’s very ready-to-wear and perfect for the everyday man. It’s classic. It’s Americana. It’s modern. It’s Nautica.
