A lukewarm start to Wondercon…

Well, at least for me it was.

The hustle and bustle of the Wondercon command center at the Moscone Center in SF

I usually go to Wondercon to take pics of the outrageous costumes that some of the die hard fans are wearing (I also go to increase my geek factor - “geek” is so chic right now), but today after walking around in a cloud of comic book ink and lightsaber fumes for nearly two hours, I didn’t see any costumes worth photographing.

However, I did run into a very costumey exhibitor based i So Cal known as Pendragon Costumes. Their costumes, mostly handmade, were like a fusion of Galliano, Lord of the Rings and Lord of the Dance.

Aristocratic - and very romantic. I swear I saw this at a Galliano show

Memoirs of a Geisha meets Evanescence

This one is lookin’ a bit “beer wenchy”

There was also a celebrity alley of famous superhero and sci-fi icons from the past. Noel Neill the original Lois Lane from the ’50s “Superman” was there clad in a superman t-shirt and a blinged-out necklace (much like the outfit she is wearing in the pic below); the retro “Incredible Hulk,” Lou Ferrigno was there - and he is HUGE. Also in attendance was Peter Mayhew (a.k.a. the cuddly Chewbacca in the Star Wars flicks) - he was also tall and huge. He also had a sign hanging at his table that said something like, “I know you like me, but please don’t stare!”

I don’t think I was allowed to take pictures of them - because there were signs that said $10 FOR PICTURES at each of their booths - or I think I was just too chicken to approach.

But one thing that did bring out my sci-fi geekdom was the new Lost video game!

Hopefully tomorrow there will be more fun costumes to take pics of!

By the time the weekend is over, I will be reciting lines from Star Wars and wearing a hobbit costume with the best of them.
