Petey is a VMAN!

So you know that Ford Models Vman contest I just blogged about? Well they already announced a winner…

It’s PETEY!

His “audition” picture:

His Hedi Slimane photoshoot:

It’s very Johnny Depp a la “Cry Baby.” And I love his name…PETEY. Very boyish and charming.

I can safely say that he was my choice from the finalists. I think I may have a future as a Ford Model agent.

See more of the finalists’ stunning photoshoot here.

Dressed tip for men and women No. 003

Not everyone can look as cool as David Beckham when wearing a Bluetooth. That is why you shouldn’t wear one on your ear 24/7 unless you are going for that “beam-me-up” look.

I can understand wearing a Bluetooth in the office, while you are “on the job” (that’s what she said) and while driving, but other than that, they are just an eyesore - especially when you are doing something like enjoying a day in the park. It doesn’t make you look important. It makes you look like a corporate monkey.

That said, think of a Bluetooth as a “work-only” device. When you are on the clock, surgically implant that thing into your ear. When you are off the clock, take it out. No one needs to see that thing in your ear when you are browsing the cereal aisle at Safeway - just opt for a low-tech earpiece until the peeps at Bluetooth come out with a more discreet, stylish earpiece that looks less Starship Enterprise and more Tiffany.

Ford looks for the next VMAN cover model

A couple of weeks ago, Ford Models made a stop at San Francisco’s Diesel store for a male model search. The winner of this hunt would get a contract with Ford Models, get a Diesel wardrobe and be on the cover of the high-fashion men’s mag, Vman.

Potential models wait in line in hopes to become the next Vman cover model

They visited cities all over the country for this America’s Next Top Model-esque male model search. Since then, they have chosen their finalists…how do you think they measure up? Click on their pics to get a better view…

Clockwise from top left: Petey, Age: 19, from Tennessee; AJ, Age: 19 from Ohio; Adam, Age:18, from Alabama

I decided to pop into the Diesel store on that scorching hot San Francisco day to chat with Ford Models Men’s Agent, Blake Woods.

My knowledge about model searches does not extend beyond episodes of Tyra’s ANTM circus and the new “Make me a Supermodel” on Bravo. So I was very curious in what exactly makes a good model - and if the modeling business is as superficial as society makes it out to be…

Here’s what Mr. Woods had to say….

What do you look for when you are doing an open call like this?

Right now, we’re looking for a cover model for this magazine called Vman. One of them is going to get the cover of the magazine.

What is the process of picking a potential model in an open call or in general?

Well, first we have to have people show up. (laughs) The process in finding a model – you very rarely get someone that’s ready. You can’t find someone on the street and then the very next week, they’re ready to be a model. It’s almost impossible. When we see it, we know it. It might be someone with really bad hair or they’re wearing really baggy clothes and you can’t see their body. We work around those things given the time parameters we have. We’ve been doing this event for a couple of weeks so we have a lot of people to choose from. When we get a model, it could take up to a year to polish them. They may need to lose weight, gain weight, change their hair or maybe they have bad skin. Sometimes people will send me pictures every three months and they aren’t there yet, but then a year later, they’re ready.

Patricia Field goes to Payless!

Are you tired of my “Sex and the City” posts yet? Well, I started to become tired of them, but then I saw the movie and it gave me a second wind. So here’s something else related to S.A.T.C.

Style maestro, Patricia Field is the woman responsible for making the show the fashion icon it is today. She has created the distinct looks that we see on Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha…but not everyone can afford a pair of Manolo Blahniks.

That said, the ingenious stylist/designer has created a line of glamorously metallic and diamond studded shoes and accessories for Payless that pop with the Pat Field-infused pizazz.

She hosted a launch party on Wednesday May 28 for her fabulous shoes at her boutique in New York…

To purchase the goodies from her Summer ‘08 collection visit Payless.com.

Five minutes with Willie Garson from “Sex and the City”

Last night, I went to a screening of “Sex and the City” hosted by SKYY Vodka and benefiting the SF AIDS Foundation and the STOP AIDS Project.

This had to be the fanciest screening for the movie in San Francisco. For one, it was at the Sundance Kabuki theaters in Japantown. Secondly, people were boozing it up on Cosmos and such. Third, Willie Garson who plays gay BFF of all gay BFF’s Stanford Blatch (Pictured left. Photo Credit: New Line Cinema) in the series (and movie) was there for a Q&A (moderated by SF’s film guru Jan Wahl) after the movie. Finally, this screening reversed the potential “Sex and the City” fatigue that I had brewing in my blood due to all the promotion and coverage that I have been doing.

As Carrie’s loyal sidekick, Garson gives a great snarky perspective to the show. He is one of my fave characters of the series - and I was lucky enough to have a five minute one-on-one chat with him!

Donned in some some snazzy horn-rimmed glasses and a casually dapper autumn-hued suit, Garson just flew in from New York City where he was attending the pink carpet premiere (he said it was crazy.)

When I met him in a secluded swanky bar area of the Kabuki theatre, I said, “Hi, my name is Dino-Ray Ramos from the Bay Area News Group.”

He laughed, “That can’t be your real name!”

I laughed back, “It is!”

Wow! Willie Garson kind of mocked my name! I feel so special! That said, I know he will remember my name forever.

Here’s how the rest of the interview went down…

When you first heard that the movie was being made, what was your initial reaction?

This has been coming for a really long time so we all had meetings with Michael Patrick King about five years ago. It wasn’t really a surprise. I just couldn’t believe that it was really happening. I said that I am not going to believe it until I am standing on the set. It was a dream that it could actually happen.

What do you think your character Stanford brings to “Sex and the City?”

He’s really a sounding board for (Carrie). They are best friends. For her, it’s someone she can love unconditionally and it’s non-threatening because it’s not going to be physical. And it’s someone he can love because he loves women. He doesn’t want to become a woman (laughs) but he really loves women. They use each other as absolute confidants of the opposite sex.

Current Obsession: The Cupid Shuffle

I loathe line dancing. Everytime I go to a wedding reception, especially if it’s a Filipino one, it’s inevitable that there will be an abundant amount of people in lines dancing like rhythmic robots. Whether it is the “Achy Breaky” or the Electric Slide, I boycott the dance floor as soon as these songs come on, standing on the sidelines crossing my arms with a look of disdain on my face.

But there is one dance that mesmerizes me. As much as I hate to admit it, there’s something about it that pulls me in. I become a slave to the song and I surrender to it’s choreographed conformity…

Yes, it’s the Cupid Shuffle. Ever since I went to a wedding this weekend, I can’t stop looking up people’s renditions of the dance on YouTube.

This is very unhealthy.

Sex and the City Premiere NY: Sarah Jessica Parker

As Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker is often seen in some of the most fabulous outfits. As herself, she is seen in some of the most fabulous outfits so it was without doubt that she would don something as magical as this shimmery Goddess-like Nina Ricci gown. Sure, it kind of looks like something that She-Ra would wear, but it looks so damn hot on her!

Sex and the City Premiere NY: Cynthia Nixon

Oh my. Cynthia Nixon (who plays the cynic-turned-housewife/lawyer, Miranda Hobbes) looks ethereally gorgeous in this wispy white Narciso Rodriguez gown. She is floating on that pink carpet.

Let’s all take a moment to have our breaths taken away….*sigh*

Sex and the City Premiere NY: Kim Cattrall

Hmmmm. The Vivienne Westwood dress that Kim Cattrall wore is an enigma to me. I don’t know if I should like it or not. I mean, it’s not terrible - but it’s not the most stunning thing.

It looks like a strapless dress with random detailing…that double as pockets? I do not know how to describe this thing. That stuff in the front is throwing me off.
