As we continue to relish in the win of rock n’ roller, David Cook’s on American Idol, I cannot get a certain performance out of my head. No, it’s not Cook’s rendition of “Billie Jean” nor is it his ingenious revamp of “Always Be My Baby,” it’s this…
No, I am not giving David Archuleta my “You go boy!” stamp of approval because I liked his performance, I am giving him props because this performance awkwardly haunts me to this day. The dancing, the woodland creature-esque button nose, the use of the word “boo” - it’s all surreal. I think the real offense is that t-shirt and jeans combo. Come on David A., you are on national television, not in 7th period biology class.
Nonetheless, he gets a “You go boy!” from me because he had the courage to sing this song - even if it was the most awkward thing I have ever seen on the show.
This has to be the best performance on American Idol in the history of all American Idols:
For them to even attempt to sing a song like this is just a hot mess, but whatever. This was obviously a ploy to remind us to watch So You Think You Can Dance this summer.
Nonetheless, this celebration of song and dance has embedded in my brain since I saw it last week.
I can’t stop singing Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music” - just ask Alyssa. She sits right across from me. If I sing the song one more time, she will slap me.
But who cares?!
Mama say mama sah ma ma ku sah! Mama say mama sah ma ma ku sah! Mama say mama sah ma ma ku sah! Mama say mama sah ma ma ku sah! Mama say mama sah ma ma ku sah! Mama say mama sah ma ma ku sah!
