This week’s SYTYCD and ABDC recaps!

So much has happened this week in the world of reality show dance competitions: On SYTYCD, Comfort has replaced Jessica, Will danced with his shirt off, there were two new dance styles (Texas two step and a pas de deaux), Nigel Lythgoe choreographed a dance for the guys AND there was a BOLLYWOOD group dance:

In a shocking results show, Kherington and Gev got the boot!

Click here, here and here for a FULL recap and videos of the dances (including that hot pas de deaux)!

Meanwhile on America’s Best Dance Crew….

Last week, Fanny Pak stole the show with their ’80s prom gone wild routine (click here to read a full recap of last week’s show).

This week, they, along with a lot of the other crews have proved that they have plateaued, leaving so much room for growth that each of them need to take advantage of.

In this week’s challenge, the crews had to make it hot with dance moves from Janet Jackson videos. But first, they treated us to an ULTIMATE CREW routine to JJ’s “Rhythm Nation.”

So this week the first two names that were called (meaning they were at the top of the bunch) were Fanny Pak and the Bay Area’s own Supreme Soul!

FANNY PACKS and YAY AREA REPRESENT!

This week’s show had potential to be really, really exciting, but I found myself a bit - dare I say - not entertained. I mean, I was enjoying the routines, but nothing had me jumping out of my seat like a crazed fan. Read more of the recap here.

Weekly dance dose (second helping): America’s Best Dance Crew

There are four key phrases (that I can remember) that you need to say if you’re a judge on America’s Best Dance Crew:

1.) You turnt it out.
2.) You smashed it.
3.) You killed it.
4.) I respect and/or appreciate that.

Moving on…

This week, the crews had the task of doing a routine that catered to the title of the song they were dancing to.

Super Cr3w, Jim Jones’ “We Fly High” - Okay, I was going to write about them later on in this post, but MAYAN! I had to put them at the top of the list…THEY KILLED IT. This Clark Kent/Superman homage was just outta control. And after their performance, when they took some audience shots, you can see some members of the Jabbawockeez throwing up the Super Cr3w sign. It certainly doesn’t hurt to have last season’s winners support.

Loved the geek-chic business man suits. Loved the tricks. Loved the high-flying acrobatics. Loved the choreography. Loved the human airplane. I am officially a fan.

Supreme Soul, Flo Rida’s “Elevator” - The Bay Area boys represented well - very well. Even though they were stuck in the bottom four, they pulled through with a elevator-infused romp complete with valet vests, b-boy pizazz. WHERE YA AT BAY AREA?! REPRESENT! I am definitely not cool enough to say something like that.

Weekly dance dose (part 2): America’s Best Dance Crew

Okay, I have another dance show obsession that I will be keeping up with until the day is done: America’s Best Dance Crew.

Like SYTYCD, I have been keeping up with this show since it started last year. This season is even extra special because we got some homeboys (and when I say homeboy, I mean they are from the Bay Area) in the mix: Supreme Soul.

Last week their performance was lackluster, but this week they threw down. Hence, they made the SF Bay Area proud with their throwback style of lettermen cardigans and varsity jackets a la Danny Zucco.

Well, this week, they passed on the varsity jackets with the music video challenge where they had to perform the choreography from Omarion’s “Touch” – but with their own twist.

SF Bay Area represents in AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW!

Thank God America’s Best Dance Crew is back on the air to add more to my dance obsession!

Yes it’s all back - J.C. Chasez and his surprisingly urban dandy outfits, Shane Sparks and his low-brim baseball caps, bling and knack for criticism, Mr. Mario “Chorus Line” Lopez and Lil Mama along with her arsenal of ponytail-through-the-top-rhinstone-encrusted baseball caps. And might I add, I have noticed that Lil Mama, in her critiques, says “I appreciate that,” as opposed to her template quote from last season, “I respect that.” My, how she has grown.

Last year, Jabbawockeez (my sister and my cousin vow to be co-presidents of their fan club along with every other girl in the world) took the prize and this year there is some stiff competition (that’s what she said).

I’m really enjoyin’ A.S.I.I.D. (And So It Is Done), not just because they have a deaf member (yes you heard that right), but because they turned that stage out - and I loved the color combo they picked for their outfits.

Then there is another girl group called Sass times 7. Ummm. Okay. They are cute and talented, but I don’t think there is enough room in the world for another “Pussycat Doll” group.

Boogie Bots: I just like the name for the breakin’ crew, but I am feelin’ Super Cr3w a little bit more when it comes to tearin’ up the floor with six-step tricks.

As for Philly-based Phresh Select, I didn’t catch their performance, but the name reminds me of a Fresh-Mex fast food joint.

I was actually impressed by the boys from suburbia, Xtreme Dance Force and the LA-based jazz-pop group Fanny Pack is this year’s BreakSk8, only because it’s giving us something different to look at other than hip-hop.

Then there is Distorted X a majority girl group (with two guys) who were pretty decent - and okay, okay, I have to mention So Real because I am from Texas and I know of the crew from my days of college, but I am more familiar with the “first generation” of the crew. But I must give them a friendly nod for their growth.

Even so, I have to back San Francisco’s own Soul Supreme they threw down on that stage - and I loved their choice of letterman’s jackets for their costuming - it’s very throwback Michael Jackson meets Rydell High.

Hmmmm…can they take the top prize? I guess we’ll just see!

I can’t WAIT for this season to start! (June 19 - MARK YOUR CALENDARS!)

You can watch all of their live auditions and vote for who you want to go through to the next round at dancecrew.mtv.com.
