Guess who likes Mendonça?

NELLY FURTADO! She was sitting right across the runway from me at the show! After the show, Nelly and I performed a rendition of “I’m Like a Bird”…okay, we didn’t, but ain’t she pretty?

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2008: Arthur Mendonça

Photos by…ME! Can’t you tell from the poor quality?

A story of sporty elegance: A smart, sexy woman who can drive a Lamborghini in heels and step out on to the red carpet with each strand of hair intact, makeup in place and evening gown uncreased. She can hang with the guys, but at the same time, dish with the gals.

Arthur who? Off the radar from the tents in Bryant Park, Canada native, Arthur Mendonça puts a sartorial stun gun to evening wear by vamping it up with a cohesive collection of shift dresses, evening gowns and structured coats.

Gems are truly outrageous! Sure, he used the template palette of blacks, but he injected color with the occasional shocking hues.

Top it off: There was a dash of feminine dandy courtesy of Lilliput Hats. To achieve the sophisticated biker look, Mendonça added some sporty gloves courtesy of Accessories by Eva.

Light on the heavy: Fabric experimentation was very evident in the collection as Mendonça utilized everything from snakeskin to nylon to create contrasting textures to compliment each other (i.e. the silk velvet gown with the silk gauze sleeve - simply delectable!)

Slimming movement, masculine charm: Cigarette pants and pencil skirts brought about constricting flair, while flowy gowns provided movement. By far, I was enthralled by the coats - especially the eye-catching oiliness of the cotton nylon slim jacket - and I use oily in the most endearing way.

Leather goes a long way: I am usually not a fan of reptilian gear, but I had to cave into my cynicism with the
patent leather biker trench.

I could’ve done without… The blatant zipper on many of the garments. It was distracting.

New face of fashion? Mendonça has the talent, the vision and, based on the drooling females (and males) around me, he has the looks and charm. I am sure we’ll be hearing more from him sooner that we think.
