Hathaway makes a “Smart” fashion choice

I promise, this will be my last “Get Smart” post - I just had to post this because I am obsessed with Anne Hathaway

Oh my. Hathaway takes my breath away. It’s not the best I’ve seen her, but if anything she looks like some sort of fabulously craning aviary creature. And is it me or does she look REALLY tall in this photo?

Dino-Ray + Anne Hathaway = BFF.

Was it psycho for me to type that?

Isn’t this great? All these fabulous celebs posing together like BFFs?

More than that, I really enjoy it when tough, menacing looking guys wear pink. Yeah, I’m talking to you Terry Crews. Excellent choice on apparel.

“Get Smart” with style

Earlier this week I saw a screening of Get Smart (which is out today), and it just added fuel to my fiery crush on Anne Hathaway.

Anyway, it took me a little while to me to hop on board this comedic espionage bandwagon, but once I did, I was LOL’ing - this has a lot to do with the fun cast: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. The Rock), Alan Arkin, Terry Crews, Terence Stamp, Masi Oka, Nate Torrence, David Koechner and of course, the always gorgeous Hathaway.

With her anime-like eyes filled with coffee-hued wonderment, I adore Hathaway. She is always a lady…

Okay, enough with my fascination-border-line stalking of Miss H. I wanted to comment about the costuming of the movie - I LOVE IT.

Costume designer, Deborah Lynn Scott stayed true to the ethos of the original ’60s mod style, but added this contemporary twist with spy-friendly dapper suits for the guys and a gorgeous set of femme fatale garb for Agent 99 (a.k.a. Hathaway).

I adored how Scott left the palette plain, but still managed to have such a fabulous wardrobe.

Below you will find two coats that Miss H wore during the movie - one black and one white. Alongside each picture I have given some suggestions in where you can get something like the coat Agent 99 wears. From a $3,4500 Rue De Mail Leather Bomber Jacket from Neiman Marcus to a $29.80 mod white jacket from Forever 21, there is something in there for varying price ranges (click on the picture to find out where to get the goods!)

Tip: For an added kick-ass feel, get some fierce knee length boots.

Tip: The Miss Sixty bowling bag completes the ’60s appeal.

MTV Movie Awards: Anne “Bringing sexy black” Hathaway

Anne Hathaway slays the red carpet in this Barbarella-meets-dominatrix one shouldered number. That’s why she gets the “Space Age Whips and Chains” award.

Hot!

Current Obsession: The March 2008 cover of “Vanity Fair”

Click photo for a larger view

I am sure that the blogosphere has exploded with the latest “Hollywood Issue” of Vanity Fair and it’s probably old news - but I just can’t stop staring at it. These are the real ladies of Hollywood. For once, it was nice to see a magazine that didn’t have the mugs of Brit or Paris - these females live up to the image of a lady. The spread (shot by Annie Liebowitz) includes actresses Emily Blunt, Amy Adams, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Alice Braga, Ellen Page, Zoë Saldana, Elizabeth Banks, Ginnifer Goodwin, and America Ferrera. All of them look flawlessly fresh and stunning, dressed in feminine “Old Hollywood” garments drenched in an Easter egg color palette.

For real, I can just stare at this picture for hours.

Oscars 2008: Hathaway looks HAUTE!

AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian

Me: I heart Anne Hathaway in this red Marchesa gown. It has the right amount of detailing, it’s draped beautifully - and it compliments her porcelain skin tone.

Mary: The thing I like about Anne Hathaway is that she kind of has a normal woman’s body…it’s not bikini perfect. Her back looks real. But she can pull off a red carpet gown beautifully. And that’s the right tone of red, unlike Heidi Klum’s almost neon red. And speaking of red, why is Miley Cyrus at the Oscars?

Me: Ditto. If Hannah Montana could get invited to the Oscars, then why aren’t we there? Isn’t there some sort of age limit to this event?

And now…back to the OSCARS red carpet!

So through the red carpet gauntlet, I saw a bunch of glam. I am about to go into a couture seizure. So please forgive me if these blog posts are like a running commentary by a scatter-brained little pre-schooler with ADHD.

Ok, so let’s get into the NOW. I am looking at Nicole Kidman. She is blending in with the red carpet with this crimson qipao-ish number and it’s lovely - except for that plushy bow on her neck.

The commentators say she looks gorgeous - I agree except for that pillowy thing.

Now, before they sign off, the gaggling bunch of TV personalities are talking about Reese Witherspoon’s gown - and I just have to say one thing: FABULOUS. The simple eggplant gown has a modern slant with the tiered flowing bottom. I said it once - and I’ll say it again - eat your heart out Ryan.

So let’s backtrack a little bit, let’s talk American Idol. No, I’m not talking about Ryan Seacrest flashing his Calvin Klein undies, I’m talking about Jennifer Hudson, nominated for Dreamgirls. She stomped down the red carpet in some jeweled Manolos and a pocketed chocolatey Oscar de la Renta gown. I love it all - except for that bolero. It’s throws things off and is very spacey in a Patti LaBelle way.

As much as I loved the Devil Wears Prada, two of the stars of the film disappointed me in terms of style choices. Anne Hathaway went overboard with the diamonds and a Valentino dress that looked like a huge black butterfly was embedded on her chest. Then, the nominated Meryl Streep wore jewelry that looked like it was purchased at a gift shop from the Grand Canyon.

…but Emily Blunt saved the day in this shimmery blue number.

Miss Blunt with Michael Buble

Let me get back to Ryan Seacrest - as much as he annoys me, I admire his style. I, like him, am a fan of the skinny tie - and he sported one much like the Oscar nominated, “rising from the ashes” actor, Jackie Earle Haley (nominated for Little Children). Kudos to both for being the only adventurous males donning the narrow accessory.

As for some of the other adventurously successful celebs - Kelly Preston was playfully elegant in a animal print Dolce & Gabbana gown - not necessarily my favorite, but she rocked it. Jada Pinkett Smith seemed encased in a constricted dulled yellow bodice and a glorious mermaid bottom - but it’s anything but dull.

Bringing some brightness to the evening was Kate Winslet. I loved, loved LOVED this simple, yet modern take on a strappy Grecian-like gown. It was like a morsel of minty goodness:

So, let me take a little break from the celebs. I switched channels from E! to the preshow on ABC - and can I just comment in how adorably refined reporter, Lisa Ling looked? She was also sporting the whole “short-in-front, long-in-back” look. The dress was fabulous, her hair was fabulous - the whole look was simply fabulous. She was like a contemporary Asian Audrey Hepburn.

So let’s see what rapid fire celebs appeared: Gwyneth Paltrow in Zac Posen, Celine Dion in a simple green dress, but gaudy-in-a-good-way jewelry…Beyonce moved it to the left in her Armani…and can you believe it’s the first time she’s in the shadow of someone else? Oops! Did I say that out loud?

…ok, another break.

24 Days of Gifts: #15

They say that you should give gifts that you would want. If that is the case, I want The Devil Wears Prada DVD.

The Devil Wears Prada DVD, $16.98

Once again, fashion and movies merge together to create this story about a homely journalist (played by the endearing Anne Hathaway) who works at a Vogue-ish magazine…reminds me of my life…kind of…

Nonetheless…

The Anna Wintour-like character, Miranda Priestly, is played brilliantly by Meryl Streep. Her menacing mousey demeanor is so cold throughout the entire movie that it won her a Golden Globe nomination. Bravo Meryl…and did I mention the fashion in the movie? Double Bravo!

One day, I hope to be degraded and belittled by someone just as stylish as Miranda. Of course, it’s all in the name of fashion.

Just so that this gift isn’t totally superficial, you might want to get the book (that the movie was based on) by Lauren Weisberger to go along with it. You can even read the book and watch the movie at the same time for a comparison! Remember - books are the gift that you can keep on opening…

The Devil Wears Prada book, $11.16

Available at Amazon.com.
