Falling into the GAP
It is late at night, and while I should be asleep, I am randomly watching Gap ads on YouTube before they all get taken off due to copyright laws (thanks for starting a trend Viacom).
Nonetheless, I guess I started watching their ads (which I love by the way) because of this commercial I saw a couple days back:
Awww. Patrick Wilson and Claire Danes are very adorable. Even so, the Gap needs to stop focusing on paying big actors for their ads and start focusing on getting out of the red a becoming a stable retailer that can rekindle the shopping flame they once had with the public. Personally, I don’t like shopping there, but I know there is some preppy schmo that is painfully waiting for the GAP to get back to basics.
As I continued to rummage through YouTube’s stock of Gap ads, I was surprised to find this one directed by Spike Jonze:
This is what I felt like doing to the store when I worked at Gap for those 7 days during those struggling years of post-college graduation angst. Plus, this is a perfect depiction what the Gap is right now - a big ol’ mess.
I don’t know when this commercial was made and what exactly the “new Gap” is or was, but apparently it didn’t help.
Even so, I do love all these celebs they use. Their ads are so much fun! I have an idea - they should just make ads and not sell clothes. It will be like commercial ads strictly for entertainment. Sure, it wouldn’t make any sense, but they certainly are a joy to watch!
