Oscars 2008: Saoirse is a lovely little lady

Mary: Saoirse Ronan does look like a lovely little lady. I hope they keep her away from that guy from “Once” though, Frames front man Glen Hansard. I just spotted him on the red carpet with his 19 year-old co-star Marketa Irglova. He’s 37. They first met when she was 13. They made the movie together when she was 17. Now they’re dating. Do you find that as creepy as I do?

Me: Ummm - YES! Nonetheless, Saoirse (how the hell do you pronounce that?) looks her age in this Alberta Ferretti number. It’s kind of reassuring that the dress illustrates her as light and youthful unlike her severe character on Atonement - but yes - please keep her away from Glen.

SAG Awards: The rest of the best (and worst)

The never-aging Michelle Pfeiffer (and Bay Area resident) arrives in a simple-chic Versace dress. As the villianess Velma von Tussle in “Hairspray,” Pfeiffer was nominated for best ensemble along with her other castmates in the fun-loving musical.

“Grey’s Anatomy” actress, Chandra Wilson adds a lot of glitz to the red carpet in this gold number. She looks like one of the three: 1.) a “Solid Gold” dancer, 2.) A member of a ’60s girl group or 3.) a Las Vegas Tina Turner impersonator. Take your pick. Even so, she still looks sassy!

Marion Cotillard already won a Golden Globe for her role as Edith Piaf in “La Vie En Rose,” but this Nina Ricci gown with superb gathering details wins her tons of red carpet glamor points.

There’s something about Viggo Mortensen’s (star of “Eastern Promises”) suit that I like and there is another part of me that thinks it’s too much. For the most part, it’s decent. It gives us something different in the realm of men’s red carpet looks. On the other hand, it may be looking too costumey for me.

Angelina Jolie (in vintage Hermes) and Brad Pitt (lookin’ a bit scruffy) arrive on the red carpet. Oh my god! Who’s watching Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh? Better yet, who’s watching all of the third-world countries?

The dress is interesting enough for me to like it, but Jena Malone’s new blonde ‘do is distracting. I liked her better as a brunette.

“30 Rock” actress Tina Fey poses with her award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy in a one-strapped, draped Alberta Ferretti gown. Side note: “30 Rock” comes into a close second to “The Office” for me.

Style Shots: The Eco-fabulous celebs at “Gorgeous & Green”

Salma Hayek wore a quaint, flowy, bubblicious skirt by Alberta Ferretti. It was perfect for her frame. She also had some elegantly funky rings on. I took some pics of them but they were too blurry. And no…I wasn’t trying to get a provocative chest shot of her in the second pic. I just wanted to get a pic of the dress! Get your mind out of the gutter!

Orlando Bloom looked simple in an all-black suit. He pulled back his Will Turner locks for sleekness, but the outfit was disrupted by his shoes. They were a little bit muddled. You would think he would shine a nice pair. Nonetheless, he, like Leo, was environmentally dreamy.

The coat that Mia Maestro wore was glimmering with glamour that echoed the Laura Bennett collection on Project Runway. That’s the second time I referenced Pro-Run at this event. I guess those designers are having an influence in fashion - well at least in my persepctive - but I digress. Underneath Mia’s encrusted coat was a light, but flattering, basic black skirt that complimented her slender physique.
