Today is President’s Day, which honors the the father of our country George Washiongton and the esteemed Abraham Lincoln. Many people have this day off for work, but I, unfortunately do not.
But that’s besides the point…
Washington was a stylish guy when it came to powdered wigs and wooden dentures, but it’s Lincoln that was fashion forward with his lean build that was complimented by his slim fitting suits - not to mention his signature top hat. He was also one of the only Presidents to rock a beard and make it look hip - he also took a fierce picture:
Here he is rockin’ the top hat and a long and lean suit

Lincoln chills out in this dapper number complete with an in-vogue vest
It’s not that often that you see a president with a distinct look these days. No one wears hats or has a funky gimmick that makes them memorable. Perhaps the next prez should take a cue from Mr. Lincoln and put a sartorial stamp during their time in office.

I totally forgot that it was Valentine’s Day. This is one of those days that you really love or really hate - I am the latter. I think that most disgruntled single people absolutely abhor this day. I am more cynical today than any other day of the year.
Nonetheless, I do have a romantic dinner planned tonight. I am going to dine on a grilled cheese sandwich with the castaways of Oceanic 815.
It’s going to be the best V.D. ever.

But for all of you who are genuinely in love, I apprehensively say - Happy Valentine’s Day.

It didn’t really feel like Christmas to me until I went to visit my parents in Tyler (pronounced “tye-luh”), Texas. It’s a city about one hour east of Dallas.
It’s not a small hillbilly town, but it’s not a metropolis either. It’s more like a boutique city with a growing medical community. It’s quaint, it has THREE movie theaters, a Dairy Queen, it has one mall (soon to be two) and it’s the self-proclaimed “Rose Capital of the World”- but sorry mom and dad - I would never live there. But it is a great place to relax.
Nonetheless, my mom has the knack of decorating the house in full Yuletide glory - an ornate Christmas tree, more stockings hung by the chimney place than people who actually live in the house, Holiday chachkis strategically placed about the house, Santa-themed kitchen towels, glowing snowmen in the front yard, Christmas cards hung all over the walls and of course, the ever-popular nativity scene.
But the one my mom set up was special. My sister told me to look at it to see if there was something “different” about it:

I noticed that there was a fourth wise man playing a wooden flute whilst being accompanied by his little lamb friend:

Apparently there was a fourth wise man never mentioned in the story of baby Jesus. He brought him the gift of music via a wooden flute and a stylish little green hat.
My mom said that it matched the others and she just decided to throw him in the mix.
I named him Paul.

if you do not celebrate Christmas, then Merry (fill in the blank of what your respective holiday celebration is)
If you haven’t got a gift by now, then there’s still hope!

It is the year of giving, so why not really GIVE.
There are so many charities out there, that it’s kind of mind boggling on choosing a cause that really hits home with you. That’s where JustGive.org comes in.
The mission of JustGive.org is:
Dedicated to creating tools and services to make charitable giving part of our everyday lives, JustGive is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about.
Perfect! This is a great way to celebrate the holidays. In fact, it just doesn’t just have to be for the holiday season - it could be year round!
With that said, I wish all of you a Happy Holidays! I hope the best for you and your families!

When I got my first Burke Williams massage, I was in heaven. If I could’ve, I would’ve handed out gift certificates to everyone I saw after I was given celebrity treatment at this spa: deep tissue massage, Eucalyptus steam room, I was so relaxed that I didn’t have a single worry in the world - and I am relentlessly high-strung and spazz.
A massage is one of the best gifts to give to any and everyone - especially this time of year. After all the shopping-induced stress, unwelcomed family members, never ending holiday parties and all the other holiday hoopla that makes our heads spin, it’s nice to treat yourself to something relaxing. That said, this is a “one for me, one for you” gifts. Gift cards are available at BurkeWilliamsSpa.com or by calling 1-866-239-6635. Treatments start at $85. For a complete listing of prices and treatments, visit the site.

“A new page for each day” is their motto for their new limited edition planner. It should be, “A bunch of cool, smart, legendary writers and artistsused our stuff, so you should too!”
Picasso drew in them, Gertrude Stein wrote in them and Van Gogh doodled in them as well. That said, the Moleskine brand has grown into a fashionable accessory for writers, urban hipsters and anyone else who just wants to look literary.
Instead of the normal black, their limited edition 2008 Daily Planner is in an eye popping red and would be perfect to plan a great 2008! Available for $20.95 at Moleskineus.com.

It’s getting cold out there, so why not warm things up in the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom - and most importantly in the bedroom.
Pure Romance is a company founded in 1993 by Patty Brisben and their aim is to “enhance” relationships by selling cheeky products at in-home parties - but they are also available online.
Check out these products that will not only make a good gift, but will also bring pleasure to both parties. Am I getting a little bit TOO racy?

This shimmery powder is made out of edible vanilla flakes that you can dust on your body. Get a little frisky by having your partner eat them off at night after a long day of work. Or if you get hungry during the day, just lick your arm and you’ll have a satisfying snack! Body bling, $12.50 at PureRomance.com

Instead of dusting, spray on a Kiss mist of green and white tea extracts. It works with a woman’s pheromones to emit an odor that will make the guys howl. Available in sweet pear or plumeria for $17.50 at PureRomance.com.

A massage candle that has a wax that doubles as massage oil? Kinky! Sold! Burning Desire, $21.50 at PureRomance.com.

So many of our favorite TV shows have seen an end (Carrie, Tony Felicity - you all will be missed). There are also countless movie trilogies that have reached legendary status (Luke, I am your father!). That said, why not give the gift of an entertaining retrospective? Seeing as though it is the end of the year, a DVD box set summing up the life of a fictional character is more than appropriate.
Here are some to consider:

Now you can watch that black screen finale over and over again. And you can also wonder what the f*ck happened in the season finale over and over again. The Sopranos The complete Seasons 1-6, $299.94 at Amazon.com

Carrie. Samantha. Miranda. Charlotte. Stanford. Clothes. Manolos. Mr. Big. The Hamptons. Transvestite hookers. The Russian. Aidan. Smith. Harry. Paris. New York. Threesomes. Natasha. Arguing in a vintage store. Eating chocolate cake as a substitute for sex. Buying fake Fendis in L.A. Reluctant baby showers. Stolen Manolos. Dates with bad breath. Elizabeth Taylor. Impotent husbands. Cosmopolitans. One-night stands. Wedding dresses. Anthony. Monogamy. Modelizers. Frenemies. Tastee D-Lite. Bad kissers. Patricia Field. What else do you need to know to go out and buy this as a gift? Better yet, why not by one for yourself while you’re at it. Sex and the City - The Complete Series (Collector’s Giftset), $154.99 at Amazon.com

From the moment I saw Princess Leia’s signature buns (the ones on her head), I was infatuated with this story - and so was the rest of the world. The newest trilogies may be pumped up with CGI-candy, but it was the original three (Star Wars:A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) that made the story of young Skywalker that made pop culture history. Plus, Jar Jar Binks is no where to be found. Still need more persuasion? Three words: Jabba the hut. Four more words: Princess Leia Metal Bikini. That was hot. Star Wars Trilogy (Widescreen Edition with Bonus Disc) , $34.99 at Amazon.com.

Before Michael Cera was Superbad and after Jason Bateman was David Hogan, there was this comedic television masterpiece. Arrested Development, the Complete Series, $54.99 at Amazon.com

Did you like The Departed? If yes, then check out this Chinese trilogy that inspired the film. Infernal Affairs Trilogy, $24.99 at Amazon.com.

Sure, it was just one season, but it was just one season WAY ahead of it’s time. It’s a cult Krakow classic and you aren’t cool unless you have this grunge-era coming of age series. It’s perfect for all of your angsty teens (and adults). Need a good cry? Watch the “So-Called Angels” episode. You’ll be bawling in no time. My So-Called Life - The Complete Series, $69.99 at Amazon.com.

Keanu Reeves proves he is a diverse thespian in this duo of movies. It ranks up there with Point Break and Babes in Toyland. Bill & Ted’s Most Excellent Collection,$24.99 at Amazon.com.

No, I will not stop showcasing my obsession with Felicity nor will I stop gushing about how much I love Keri Russell in this series about a lovelorn college student who’s biggest life decision was to pick Ben or Noel. If you don’t like this show, you have no soul. Felicity - The Complete Seasons One Through Four (Freshman - Senior Years) - Amazon.com Exclusive, $180 at Amazon.com.

Do you have problems getting 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night? Are you cranky in the morning due to restless leg syndrome? Do you have trouble sitting through those HPV and Boniva commercials with Sally Field? Well I don’t have any solutions to the last two problems, but for the first one, this gift may be able to help out.
The Sleeptracker Pro does it all! Well, it doesn’t do it all, but it does collect all your sleep data and based on that, it decides the best time for you to wake up in the morning. Plus it’s just a good item to measure your sleep and, or course, tell you what time it is. It sounds very complicated, but it’s so cool. Perhaps this is a solution for those people who are always cranky in the morning. Available at Sleeptracker.com for $179.
