Asian Americans make a new mark in film and TV…

And now a brief break from fashion…

Today, I wrote a piece about Asian Americans in Entertainment. I had the privilege of speaking to some respected names in the biz: Yunjin Kim (Lost), Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica), James Kyson Lee (Heroes), John Cho (Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay) and even some locals like Chi-hui Yang, director of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival and UC Berkeley grad-turned indie film guru Jimmy Tsai.

They had so much to say about the new wave of Asian Americans in Entertainment, that I couldn’t fit it in my piece. That said, I am putting more supplemental quotes in this blog along with an interview with Jeffrey Ma - he was the basis of Jim Sturgess’s character on 21.

Current Obsession: The March 2008 cover of “Vanity Fair”

Click photo for a larger view

I am sure that the blogosphere has exploded with the latest “Hollywood Issue” of Vanity Fair and it’s probably old news - but I just can’t stop staring at it. These are the real ladies of Hollywood. For once, it was nice to see a magazine that didn’t have the mugs of Brit or Paris - these females live up to the image of a lady. The spread (shot by Annie Liebowitz) includes actresses Emily Blunt, Amy Adams, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Alice Braga, Ellen Page, Zoë Saldana, Elizabeth Banks, Ginnifer Goodwin, and America Ferrera. All of them look flawlessly fresh and stunning, dressed in feminine “Old Hollywood” garments drenched in an Easter egg color palette.

For real, I can just stare at this picture for hours.

Oscars 2008: Travolta’s and his hair

Mary: I just want Ryan to ask him, “Who made your helmet?”

Me: I think John Travolta got it from REI. What’s with all of Ryan Seacrest’s crotch talk?

Mary: Let’s keep a running count of Ryan Seacrest’s crotch references. Two already and it’s not even 4:15.

Me: I thought it was at three, but I’m lovin’ Kelly Preston’s popping Cavalli yellow gown.

SAG Awards: Amanda is all grown up!

As the pigtailed Penny Pingleton in “Hairspray,” Amanda Bynes was a naive little girl in a jumper, but here, she impresses the crowd in this strapless Marchesa gown with stunning Goddess-worthy decollatage and a rich color that compliments her.

SAG Awards: America’s new sweetheart

AP Photo/Evan Agostini

The cherub faced Ellen Page won all of our hearts as a wise-ass pregnant teen with a heart of gold in “Juno” and she scared the sh*t out of me in “Hard Candy.” She also kicked major bootay in “X-men 3″ as Kitty Pryde. But at the SAG Awards, she was playing the role of a beautifully modest actress on the red carpet dressed in a Zac Posen dress.

SAG Awards: Red carpet androgyny

David Bowie is that you? Oh no, wait - it’s Tilda Swinton, actress from “Michael Clayton.”

My mistake.

SAG Awards: All about Eva

“Desperate Housewives” actress, Eva Longoria Parker is totally working this backless old Hollywood-esque Naeem Khan gown. The print is gorgeous and her whole look is white-hot!

SAG Awards: “Oh” no she didn’t!

With “Grey Anatomy” star, Sandra Oh’s dress, I feel like I should jump up and down on it like one of those jumpy castle things. That bow is making it look like a gift I would hate to open.

SAG Awards: Cate the chameleon

AP Photo/Evan Agostini

Cate Blanchett’s beautiful glow overpowers the mind-boggling floral print of this bed sheet of a dress by Balenciaga. Nominated for her polar opposite roles in “Elizabeth:The Golden Age” and “I’m Not There,” Blanchett is normally seen in off-center, yet glamorous gowns, but she decided to play it simple. Like I said, she’s pregnant - and her happiness trumps everything.

SAG Awards: It’s a black tie affair

It looks like a lot of the guys at the SAG Awards got a memo to wear a black tie (skinny or wide) to the ceremony tonight - and there is nothing wrong with that. It’s simple, it’s chic and you can never go wrong with a finely tailored suit and an effortless black tie.

“Hairspray” actor James Marsden (or if you prefer, you can call him Cyclops) and his wife, actress Lisa Linde, arrive on the red carpet. I think I have those shoes.

Eric Dane of “Grey’s Anatomy” arrives to the awards show in nicely tailored two-button digs with his wife Rebecca Gayheart, who’s looking fancy in a ruffled and cinched crimson gown (remember when she was on all those Noxema commercials?).

Academy Award-winning actor of “The Last King of Scotland,” Forest Whitaker arrives to the show with Keisha Whitaker (looking gorgeous in pink) in a black suit with beautiful detailing on the lapel.

Michael Scott -er- I mean, Steve Carell wears his suit with an extra accessory, the award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series. Carell and company won for their work in “The Office.”

AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian

Josh Brolin, left, poses with Javier Bardem (I think I might have a healthy man crush on Javier) while holding their awards for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture for their work in “No Country for Old Men.” Brolin opted pro-tie while Bardem went without. No matter how hard Brolin tries to escape it, he will forever be Brand Walsh from the Goondocks (that’s a “Goonies” reference, for those who didn’t catch on).

Jerry Ferrara and Adrian Grenier have their own black tie “Entourage.”

Is it me or does Zac Efron look EXACTLY the same on each red carpet he stands on? Same pose, same hair, same suit, etc…etc…
