1000 issues of Entertainment Weekly

Every week, I look forward to my issue of Entertainment Weekly. I am in love with this magazine. No lie - I read it from cover to cover. Okay, well, maybe not ALL of the material, but I do eat it all up - especially the back page columns (Diablo Cody is my favorite.)

But the most recent issue is special - it’s their 1000th issue! How exciting is that?!

The mag is filled with lists of anything and everything involving pop culture for the last 25 years: the 1,000 best movies, TV shows, albums, books, videogames, technology and of course, pop culture style moments.

Of course I went straight to the latter. According to the witty folks at EW here are the top 10 Pop Culture Moments that Rocked Fashion:

1.) Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards, 1984

This was groundbreaking and kinda hot. Who knew that writhing on the ground in a hideous skanky wedding gown whilst singing “Like a Virgin” would make Madge an international icon? Acutally, when I watch the clip now, I think it’s kinda awkward - but still hot.

2.) The Opening Credits of ‘Sex and the City,’ 1998

How could you not include this? SJP looked cutesy in her tutu.

3.) Michael Jackson in “Thriller,” 1983

I had this album. It was a prized piece of vinyl next to my Mickey Mouse Disco album. Actually, I liked everything but this song. It used to scare the crap out of me - and then the video came out and I became the youngest person ever to have a heart attack - but now I have made my peace with the song and it makes me smile.

Ah Michael. I remember when you were rockin’ it. Now where have you gone? Well, at least we have these blissful memories of when you defined pop culture in a trailblazing manner rather than a scandalous one. And those space-age pleather jackets were the best thing in the world -even if my parents never bought me one.

4.) Sharon Stone at the Oscars, 1996

Big deal - I used to wear shirts from the Gap all the time.

5.) Kurt Cobain, 1991

A great loss for the music world. He was the king of grunge and had a style that defined a generation.

Oscars 2008: Heigl blends in with the carpet

AP Photo/Chris Pizzello

Mary: More red from Katherine Heigl. I’m now officially sick of red.

Me: Well we’ve seen red on Miley, Anne and Heidi - but c’mon Mary it’s not that bad. I think this Escada one-strapped gown looks vampy on the “27 Dresses” actress. At least she really isn’t “Knocked Up.” I think we got enough pregnancies on the carpet. And by the way, I am really happy for Moore.

Well, there you have it. Another Oscars red carpet in the books. We’ve seen lots of good…and some bad - but Mary and I had a great time judging those really expensive outfits on the red carpet.

That said, I am going to go eat now. I am starving.

Oscars 2008: A fertile red carpet

Besides Jessica Alba, pregnant celebs were common on the red carpet:

Nicole Kidman may not be showing, but her fairly safe L’Wren Scott black gown is overpowered by her ornate icicle bling.

Cutting edge documentarian Michael Moore is due any day now.

Oscars 2008: A ghostly and overly cropped Zellweger

Me: I love this sparkly Carolina Herrera gown - on someone else. Her skin is so fair and light that the dress whites her out. And is it me or does she look flustered and a bit haggard?

Mary: She has got to stop cutting that hair of hers. Fantastic dress, although maybe too much like Helen Mirren’s from last year.

Oscars 2008: I guess I have to talk about Cameron Diaz

Why is she here? Where is Justin? Okay, I think I am just saying all this because her voice, for some odd reason, was annoying me tonight - but her strapless pale pink Dior gown was gorgeous and WAY better than her gown last year.

Oscars 2008: Swank is swanky!

Hilary Swank may not have any nominations on her plate this year, but in this menacingly beautiful one shouldered Versace gown, she is a winner!

P.S. How cheesy was that line?

Oscars 2008: Diablo goes “RAWR!”

Juno screenwriter, Diablo Cody went the animal kingdom route with this frock. I love ya Diablo, but I ain’t a fan of the the nightgown. Please don’t hate me.

Oscars 2008: Turning the Page

AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian)

Mary: Need’s a real stylist, stat! Or maybe a whole hour with Clinton and Stacy on “What Not to Wear.” Another red carpet, awful, dreary dress. Spaghetti straps and a straight bodice are not good on her. I’ve interviewed her in person and she’s a tiny — tiny! — girl, but the dress makes her look oddly broad. It’s like my prom dress, circa 1981.

Me: Way harsh Mary! I think Ellen Page is adorable! Sure, this isn’t that glamorous, but she’s a red carpet rookie, so I am going to go easy on her since I loved Juno so much. But I do agree, hopefully she’ll get a stylist soon.

Oscars 2008: “Garnering” style

AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian

Me: This Gothic ruche-infused Oscar de la Renta is beautiful and I am kind of diggin’ the bangs. Jennifer Garner surprisingly looks less masculine.

Mary: I always love the way Jennifer Garner looks. But did she have a baby bump? I’ve been suspicious lately but I couldn’t tell because creepy Gary Busey kept jumping in front of her. I hope he was drunk. That would be his only excuse. He was heckling Seacrest; sounded as though he was trying to out him or something. He’ll probably never get another Oscar invitation again.

Me: I don’t think she is preggers - but I loved the whole Busey incident. He was like the crazy uncle that invited himself to the party.

Mary: But Jen’s hair - a little too off center, right? Not as successful as Angelina’s hair last night at the Independent Spirit Awards. So depressing that she and Brad aren’t expected tonight, eh?

Me: Yeah, Brad and Angie are hanging with me watching the Oscars right now. We ordered a pizza and Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh are really excited for the Enchanted musical performance.

Oscars 2008: Voluptuous “Dreamgirl”

AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian

Mary: Now there is someone who needs to play down the girls. That dress makes her look as though she’s wearing a breast plate.

Me: Yeah Jennifer Hudson’s twins are outta control, but I love me a curvy gal. As for the dress, the white isn’t too overbearing, but that reptilian detailing has to go.
