This Should Make You Very Angry

Ever wondered why, even though endangered California condors are dying in droves from lead poisoning, that hunters have NOT been banned from using lead shot in the supposedly protected areas where only 70 of these precious birds still live in our state?

Did you know that one Fish and Game Commissioner, Judd Hanna, just got “kicked” off the Commission by Gov. Schwarzenegger because he was in favor of banning lead shot in the condor refuge?

Hint: Think special interest groups, like the National Rifle Association.

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, will be happy to take you on a very smelly and politically enlightening trip through his own blog on the subject if you click on:

After reading that, do you really think the Gov. is going to sign AB 821, a bill sitting on his desk that would ban hunters from using lead shot in areas populated by endangered condors? What a stupid, stupid mess. Poor condors, dying from something they don’t even understand. Sadly, neither do I.

I’ve e-mailed the governor, asking him to sign AB 821. Everyone who wants to help protect the California condors should contact him too. To send an e-mail to Gov. Schwarzenegger, go to:

address – c/o The State Capitol, Sacramento, CA 95814

The Fish & Game Commission may be reached at 916/653-4899; the Dept. of Fish & Game at 916/653-7667.

And Mike Chrisman, Secty of Resources (916/653-5656). It was Mr. Chrisman, according to the L.A. TIMES (9/14), who told Mr. Hanna to resign. CALL THEM ALL AND RAISE HELL! THIS CANNOT STAND. Or you can kiss the condors goodbye.

Judd Hanna is one of the best things to happen to the Commission in years. Ironically, he’s a Republican himself, as well as a duck hunter. The 34 legislators (Republicans all) demanding his resignation should all be tarred and feathered. No wonder people hate politicians! And our wildlife suffers accordingly. The entire Commission (5 members, all appointed by the Governor) should resign in protest as a matter of principle. Let’s deluge the Governor with calls and letters of outrage. (It’s rumored that he plans to run against Barbara Boxer for the U.S. Senate when he terms out.)

P.S. – I have a copy of that despicable letter signed by the 34 Republican legislators. Should anyone wish a copy, send me your fax number.
